“stay in the park !!”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

There is nothing so special as actually staying in Yellowstone National Park. It is a great exhilarating feeling to wake up in the crisp air and go watch Old Faithful. We stayed in the Snow Lodge's Western cabins and was very pleased. Our cabin provided us with both peace & quite and privacy. The location of the Snow Lodge is close to so much...Old Faithful & some other geysers of the Upper Geyser Basin. Adjacent to the Snow Lodge is the General Store, a gift shop, a gas station, places to eat, a visitor's center, and Post Office. The Old Faithful Village can take care of pretty much any of your needs. We had breakfast in the Snow Lodge's restaurant, and a low cost dinner is a short walk to the Old Faithful Lodge cafeteria ( not to be confused with the Snow Lodge...2 different buildings ) .
My advice is do not underestimate travel times to lodgings outside the park, but stay inside Yellowstone. Also by all means, DO book ahead as soon as possible.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Western cabins, but they also offer motel rooms in the large central building plus fr...

Old faithful snow lodge (not to be confused with the inn) Is located in the southwest area of yellowstone park in the lower geyser basin. The Inn is the historic hotel across the street (not this hotel). When you enter the area , take the road to the second entrance past the old faithful inn, follow the signs to old faithful parking area go left than left again. The snow lodge is on the left just past the general store.
This hotel is the newest of all the lodges here in the park and looks the most modern. We stayed here for 4 nights in mid sept 2013 making it our base for touring. This worked out fine for the trip as this area has the most activity and services in the entire park. (more dinning choices)
The hotel common area is attractive new looking, clean, has fireplace. appealing but does pale compared to the grand scale of the inn or the lake hotels. What this place has over them is less people feels more laid back , peaceful , more easy going. The staff was accomidating and helpful , check inn went fast. (no lines)
Our room ----- We asked for something on the top floor (3rd) as to help keep down the noise a bit most lodge hotels dont have good soundproofing. Happily we got it. Brought our bags in the lobby and off the the elevators to the room around the corner and down the hall. The room itself is what i would describe as a best western or equvilent. 2 double size beds with night stand in between , clock and lamps with a half size closet / 2 drawer cabinet on each side of the room. (one had a small fan in it) desk with chair and limited plug outlets. Bath area has out side sink from the tub and toilet room. Extra pillows and blankets in closets, mini fridge, coffee maker/coffee,hairdryer,iron/board.
Lighting was standard, the complimentory soaps were shaped like a bear (cute). heat system worked just fine.Room was cozy, comfortable , and clean. Just like in most park lodges no tv or radio. There was an alarm clock it may have had a radio did not use.
Inside the common areas the hotel had a grill (fast food see other review), a restaurant, mid size gift store, and a nice sitting area with checkerboard tables on the second floor overlooking the lobby.
Parking is available on 3 sides of the building the most limited is of course in front. The outside area has alot of activity also. Just next door to the left is a nice size general store. Here they have gifts and limited food items think (large gas station mini mart). Across the street is the main visitor center (here you can get geyser eruption times) a good place to start and get information. In front of the vc is old faithful itself. to the right is another large building with a caffeteria, gift shop, and coffee stand. to the left is the historic old faithful inn.
The area also has a gas station, post office, and medical center, and the star attraction the geysers, hot springs, pools, and other thermal features of the park. All within walking distance of the hotel.
I thought this was a great choice for us comfort , convience, and relaxing. We did not have the tour buss unload its hordes of people at our hotel. One more thought. The restaurant offers take out lunches (not the grill). You need to ask for a lunch card and the podium. Here you will have choices of sandwiches all come with snacks, and water. You can pre-pay and check what time you want to pick it up. This was a good value for 10 bucks.
I liked this hotel and thought is was as nice a place as your going to find here in the park. I would not hessitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor are preferable as it will help keep down your neighbors noise. Also Avoid the...

We stayed in the main hotel. It was built in 1999, and seems brand new. They really tried to make the rooms large and comfortable. They also tried to make them look good. The rooms were good, not as clean (dusty, hairs in the sink) as Mammoth Hotel was. The lobby is beautiful. There is a great bar and the restaurant is fine. No reservations taken so get your name on the list 30-40 minutes before you want to eat!
There is no free Wi Fi, dumb for such a nice place. Didn't seem as crowed as the Old Faithfull Lodge. There is also a gift shop and a fast food place. The fast food looked horrible, we stayed away. Bring your power strip to plug in all of your electronics.

Room Tip: The view from our 2nd floor room was the ugly back parking lot. I doubt there are any good views fro...

The Snow Lodge is beautiful inside. The lobby area has a huge fireplace and great light fixtures. There is guest laundry on the 2nd floor. The 2nd floor has a open balcony area with tables.
Our room was a standard queen with two beds. The rooms are large, light, and very pretty. The bathroom is very large with the sink out in the main room. The beds are very comfortable.
The only negative is that it seems the hotel has no soundproofing. The doors are big and heavy and if you just let them close they will slam. With no other 'normal' noise in the hotel all sound is magnified.
I would suggest getting a room on the top flor (3rd). That way no one is in a room above you. It sounded like an elephant group was bowling in the room above us (I'm pretty sure they were just walking from one end of the room to the other - but it went on for 1-1/2 hrs and it made our room vibrate).

Room Tip: Get a room on the 3rd floor - and be considerate of the folks in the room below you. They can hear...

My family and I stayed in Yellowstone in late August and stayed at this hotel. At about 5:45 A.M, we noticed a tiny deer mouse running across the cabin floor towards our luggage (partially our fault, we left bread out, but still annoying). Prior to this intrusion, the cabin was pretty comfortable, with two beds, a bathroom, a sink, and a separate room for extra luggage and coats. But it was pretty far from the actual hotel, so it was kind of annoying when we had to walk. If you or another party member has a disability, I recommend a nearby cabin or a room in the actual hotel. The restaurant was good (try bison burger); but the SERVICE was excellent, especially with the issue with the mouse. Also, great location near Old Faithful and Old Faithful Inn. If it wasn't for the mouse, I would've given this hotel 5 stars. Sorry, Snow Lodge.

Room Tip: 1) Ask if there are mice in your room/cabin. 2) If your family has a person with a disability, as...

This was a great place to stay. We tried as soon as a year ahead of our vacation travel time to get into the Old Faithful Inn and all was booked. So we settled on the Western Cabins at the Snow Lodge, which is a short walk away from the geysers and the Inn. We didn't go wrong. The cabins were clean, the beds were excellent, it was quiet, parking was right at the door, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. If you stay at the Inns and Lodges it is quite a hike to your room from the parking lot. Great for Seniors who can't carry a lot of suitcases and "stuff" a long way.
