What can I say positive about this property - the rooms are clean, a good size, the staff is very friendly and helpful and it's close to old faithful - but that's it. No tv, no a/c (and it does get hot here), the Internet is very expensive and slow, and the rooms are very expensive for a grade below motel 6 quality. You are a captured traveler if you want to stay in this magnificent national park so I guess that's the way it's going to stay till some competition comes along. Yellowstone national park is amazing.

All of Yellowstone's lodges are managed by one company, Xanterra. Xanterra does a great job with the ecological thing, with lots of recycling bins and diligent protection of the park and it's animals. Xanterra also gives employment to 100's of people from all over the country. However, the affordable western cabins at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, have all the charm of a Motel 6 in Detroit. The gravel road to the cabins was full of potholes, giving that "RV camp" feel. For $180/night, FILL THE POTHOLES! You need to know, before you go, that none of the lodges in yellowstone have TV's, radio or internet. Who wants to watch TV with all the beauty of Yellowstone, right? However, it just doesn't seem safe, with today's events, to be so detached for the outside world. I think Xanterra is coming around by "selling" internet time at the Snow Lodge. If you want free internet, go to a coffee shop, outside the park, in Gardiner or West Ywllowstone. Something as simple as a news station in the lodges would be reasonable. It may mean slapping some communication towers up, but it is a small price to pay for feeling safe and informed.

For years we lived close to the park and have stayed in many (almost all) of the accomodations. We really like the OF area location and activity. The Snow Lodge western cabins are very basic but the nice room size has been a reason we have opted to stay here more than once. I have no problem with no TV, wifi, etc. In the past couple years they have added Keurigs and this year attached lotion and soap containers to the vanity (which is outside the tiny bathroom) and I can imagine how they might soon look based on the cleanliness standards we experienced this trip. Also added a shower mounted soap/shampoo/conditioner unit.
However, it is time for some serious updating of these shabby rooms. Our son commented on having stained sheets and we had only a bottom sheet on our bed. This sent my husband trekking in the dark at 10:30 at night to the front desk to secure clean bedding. Even if the rest of the room would have been spotless (it wasn't & this is early in the season), this is unacceptable for the $$$. Pillows are flat and bed is hard.
We have been willing to compromise in the past (location instead of true comfort) but I can't imagine that this experience will be soon forgotten :-(

Stayed here 2 nights while on the Yellowstone Association's Winter Wonderland trip. The hotel is beautifully designed and furnished. Loved my room. Only wish I'd been up a level instead of on the main floor. See attached photos

We stayed in one of their duplex cabins; it was very rustic and we felt too expensive for what you get. There is no telephone, no t.v., no wifi, its an old building with wood framed windows and doors that leaked air. There is a heater that worked very well. The cabins are behind the main building and a little walk to old faithful. The restaurant in the main building was good. One evening, Bison walked through the parking lot, very close to the cabins. If we were to do it again, we would probably stay off Yellowstone and drive in.

Room Tip: If you want rustic, stay in one of the duplex cabins.

Overall, the rooms were average and quite expensive. The service by the part time seasonal staff at the lodge was excellent in terms of advice for activities, driving, and things to see. Make sure you are on the second floor or above, There is no TV or internet or A/C.It is one of the better locations in the park if you do not want to do a lot of driving back and forth out of the park.

This is the best hotel, it is just a short walk to Old Faithful geyser, makes you feel like you are in a camp ground, a cozy feeling. Our room was in the back and it was so peaceful and clean. The room size was really spacious, we had 2 queen beds, and the bathroom was good size, plus you get cute little bear soaps. There is no radio, TV, or internet in these cabins, which is another reason we loved it. We were able to walk around to everything, food, shops, hiking, or just poking through out the park. We did shop in the gift store and made sure we purchased something made by a local artist, we love to support the locals. Can't wait to stay here again.
