Owner description: Brightly-colored hot spring, the result of algae that live in the water.

The Grand Prismatic can be seen from ground level. However, become a bit adventurous and drive past the Grand prismatic and turn right at the next gravel road. Park the car, and hike on the dirt road babove the Grand Prismatic for about one mile. You'll see a steep hill on your left. It will take some effort, but climb to the top and look down on the Grand Prismatic. You will not believe your eyes!!!!!

We took a leisurely stroll along the walkways. Beautiful colors and wonderful place for photography. The best views may be from a helicopter, but the ones from the boardwalk were certainly worth the time.

This spring is so large that it's difficult to "see" from the boardwalk alongside it. The physically inclined capable of climbing an adjacent hill (along the trail to Fairy Falls) will benefit from a much broader view. From said trail, the turquoise blue of the spring seems to bleed into the air above the water. The pool is so large and so hot that on a chilly morning, you see more steam than anything else...the viewing is better on a warm afternoon

This is a long walk up to the top of the prismatic spring, but well worth it! Be careful - it's a wide boardwalk, but no rails on either side and it's boiling hot water! And hold onto your hat - lots of hats and caps in the geysers! The rainbow colors are amazing:)
