“Great Alaskan Lodge near Copper Center”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

This lodge offers a beautiful view of the Wrangell-St. Elias range. The room was typical of a moderately priced motel room. It was clean, and offered a view of the mountains. Being in the middle of nowhere, your only options for dining are at the lodge. The dining room was a little pricey, but so is all of Alaska. We ate in the bar and grill area, which had great hamburgers and grill fare. The staff was friendly, typical of Princess. This is a five-star lodge, by Alaskan standards, but would be a three-star in the lower 48.

Room Tip: Get a room on the mountain view side.

We are currently at the lodge, enjoying a spectacular view of the Wrangler and Elias Range enjoying a glass of Alaskan White tap beer. the place owned by Princess is an out of the way lodge, clean with a spectacular view of the mountains. There is a roaring crackling fire going with the faint hint of the wood smoke, yes in July. There are tours avalilable, as usaul for Copper River Salmons, plane rides etc.

Beautiful view from the lobby of the hotel, with their huge panoramic windows, of the Wrangell-St. Elias Mountain Range! The restaurant had a good menu, and the food was very tasty. We stayed here as part of our Tour Package, but the staff was very friendly and helpful...in other words they treated us as if we didn't have to stay there and it was very nice! We were even blessed enough to have an unbelievable view of Mt. Bona when we woke up in the morning! Unbelievable!! When you stay there, take the short hike down to the river. It should only take about 15-20 minutes each way, and it is well worth it. However, be prepared for the mosquitoes along the trail and at the river....they can be brutal!

Room Tip: Be really nice to your tour guide so they put you in a room on the East side!!

Tons of people here because Princess Tours uses it. They spent too much money on the lobby and restaurant area and not enough on the room. WiFi only in the lobby but great views from there. Nice walking trails and views by the motels. The motel sits up on a bluff. Would have been nice if they had a continental breakfast included.

We spent only one night here, but would have enjoyed many more if the schedule had permitted. Out of the way, but gorgeous location, and a wonderful rustic feel to the lodge. Highly recommend.

We stayed here as part of our PRINCESS cruise/land tour package and arrived via PRINCESS coach from Anchorage. This lodge is the newest in the PRINCESS inventory – 10 years old and in very good condition. Lodge rooms, lobby, restaurants, bar, tour desk, internet café, and gift shop all in one building. Our sleeping room was nicely furnished, clean and comfortable with in-room coffee maker, hair dryer, television, ceiling fan and automatic temperature controls. There are no in-room refrigerators. Our king bed was also comfortable. The Lodge restaurant food was very good with large portion sizes. We especially liked their blueberry mojito! We found the staff to extremely helpful and friendly.
A very impressive flag lower ceremony honoring veterans and active duty members is conducted nightly at 830pm. $5 shuttle tickets available at tour desk for Copper Center and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Visitors’ Center. We really enjoyed this slower paced lodge when compared to the other two PRINCESS lodges we visited on this tour. The mountain view from the lobby was spectacular. This lodge is a super place to relax and rejuvenate!

Last of 3 Princess lodges visited. No where else to go, so when staff forgets orders and food -- even the coffee -- is marginal while being pricey, you get the feeling you are being stiffed. Staff complained of being overworked and understaffed, and no one from management every stopped by to ask how things were going. It's another tourist money-bleeder, but with a nice view.
