“Tired at Tyson's? - Try Bazins in Vienna”
Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

If you are in the Tyson's Corner area, slip over to nearby Vienna and give this local gem a try. Met two couples for dinner here while visiting the area on a Thursday night. Had a great experience. Seafood small plates and entrees were all superbly prepared and served - monk fish wrapped in bacon and served with touch of kimchi, seasonal soft shell crabs, crab spring roll, and tuna tartare. Great selection offered on their extensive wine list. Dessert of Krispy Kreme bread pudding was a delicious artery clogger to top off the night. Server was excellent. Spent a delightful three hours unhurried by the staff enjoying our dining and catching up.

“Fine restaurant but falls short of reputation”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

Bazin's has a great reputation and a colleague and I decided to try it. We both ordered the set menu for $35 per person.

We started with a chicken and blackbean soup. This was great soup with cabbage and other veggies. It was very unique and really tasty. Based on our soup we really expected a great entree'. We were disappointed. The almond crusted Chilean sea bass was sub-par. it was dry and tasteless. The portion was very thin and did not seem to match the taste or texture of other Chilean sea bass I have eaten.

The desert was a non-alcoholic strawberries Romanoff. That was a tasty way to end the evening; very enjoyable, smooth and creamy.

We had a house Cabernet, Oregon, with a Bizan's label. It was a really excellent Cabernet Sauvignon for the low price we paid.

None the less, the first and the last cannot make up for the very poor entree. The service was excellent - great menu knowledge, pleasant and properly attentive.

As to atmosphere, it is a lovely restaurant but very loud.

“Just ho-hum”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

I recall dining at Bazins a few years ago and being impressed with the food and service, but not enough to warrant a quick return. Recently, when the wait at Bazins bustling sister restaurant located next door was too long for our hungry threesome, we showed up at Bazins on a Friday night without reservations and were seated without a problem. That was a sign of things to come. Service was great, efficient and accommodating for one of our group with a food allergy. But no part of the food was memorable. The best part of the bread basket was the butter. The salad was just okay. None of our entrees were winners, although all were nicely presented. Bazins, are your chefs tired?

“Good not Great”
Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

Some DC friends of ours recommended Bazin's so we booked a table for 4 on a Saturday night. We arrived on time , were asked to wait at the bar for a few minutes while our table was being prepared, and .... 30 minutes later we were seated. Not a great start.

The restaurant is simply designed, mainly wooden floors with a few booth seats and wooden tables. I found the tables to be a little too close together for both comfort and noise level. Even the wait staff were complaining about acing to squeeze through tight spaces. I felt they'd jammed in a couple of extra tables for a weekend night and we all suffered.

The food was good - not great, but good. We sampled portobello mushroom w/blue cheese, beet salad and the bazinsalad ( apples, blue cheese, pecans and onions). Entrees were flatiron steak with blue cheese (note the theme?), scallops, filet steak and duck. We all decided the food was well presented, tasty, but .. Nothing special when you'd say WOW and want to go straight back. It's currently rated a 26 on Zagats which I feel is maybe 1-2 pts too high.
