Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Don't expect sidewalk viewing of lions, tigers or great apes, rather friendly interactions with the feathered and furry. Visitors can purchase animal feed items, such as parakeet sticks, and watch as the colorful birds land at their fingertips; feed cups to hand feed giant watusi and gentle llamas on the safari wagon ride, or bottle feed little lambs and goats. Roer's Zoofari also holds a "Creature Feature" at 10, noon and 2pm where guests enjoy an informal animal meet and greet with a parrot, ferret, alligator, snake or other small animal.

“Sad for the animals”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

This is a local little zoo, and it seems to me that the animals just barely get by. The people who own it naturally do not have the resources to care for these animals the way a large zoo does...so the creatures just seem okay. About the only positive is that they're safer than in the wild. Makes me sad to look at them.

“Fun for the Kids”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We've been to Reston Zoo several times. The kids seem to love it and it's pretty fun for the older ones too. I recommend the hayride which runs several times a day. We also love buying feed and milk for the goats and sheep! It's a sleepy little zoo with a nice array of animals. The pricing is a bit on the high end though.

“Had a good time with very young ones.”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Visitors are allowed to buy honey sticks to feed the budgies and bottles of formula to feed the animals. This is something great to have such close contact. Kids love the wagon ride with all the animals walking up. Apparently there is a new cage for monkeys with more room. This is not cheap, nor is it particularly a real zoo but the under 6 think it is great.

“Kinda' Of A Downer For All But The Toddler”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

No doubt, if you've got kids 5-years and younger, this is an eye popping zoo. It's a hands on experience for some animals, providing a farm-like interaction. But most other may be disappointed with the small facility, dingy setting and general aura of the animals which suggests tired and weary.

“Perfect for little ones”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

This is such a sweet little zoo, fabulous for toddlers with so many petting opportunities. The most fun is the hayride - those wonderful animals come right up to the ride for treats and petting, Camels, Texas Longhorn, Buffalo.....
