“Very Unique B&B. Would definitely stay again.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2010

My wife and I stayed here for our second anniversary on the way out of the Black Hills. The rooms are very unique and the entire place has a very interesting atmosphere. We stayed in the oriental room, but because no one else was staying there that night, we pretty much had the run of the place. Each suite has its own theme and is very big. Each also has its own 42 inch flat panel with all the channels you could want. The owner was very friendly and made a very nice breakfast in the morning. The only drawback of the place is that we were there on a Monday and almost nothing was open. We had to eat our anniversary dinner at a sports bar. If you want a non-traditional B&B this is the place for you.

Smith Fargo is a refreshing alternative to the average motel room in the Black Hills. Part bed n' breakfast and part boutique hotel, they offer multi-room suites with the use of a common area and full kitchen. The kitchen was stocked with snacks, drinks, ice cream, and standard breakfast items. Each suite has a theme and is extensively decorated following its particular theme. The suites have a bedroom and separate room with pull out couch, as well as flat screen TV and DVD player. The rooms (including the common area) are not large but we found them more than adequate. The owners have done a nice job retaining the charm of an old building while creating a clean and inviting atmosphere. The night we stayed, we were the only guests and had the run of the entire place. Check it out....you won't be disappointed (unless you want a pool)

I try to avoid your standard B&B as often as I can. They usually rate too high on the "doily scale" I prefer Grand old hotels with modern upgrades, in the center of a city. The Smith-Fargo is neither. The location is great, but remember you're in a small town and there really is no "bad" location. Dick & Liz are very nice people and its worth your time to get talking with Dick about his story and the creation of their little guest house. Each room is very unique and Dick has used top quality materials in construction, plumbing and televisions.. I think I like the place. What makes me uncertain? There is just too much stuff to look at everywhere. Collectables, antiques and chotchkies line every shelf, fill every table and lean against every wall. I prefer my lodgings a bit more austere and Zen like. Clean simple lines please me more than a copy of the Sears catalog from 1902 or corset buttons from 110 years ago. If you love this kind of stuff you'll adore the Smith-Fargo. If you're more like me and find simple is beautiful you may want to find another place to stay.

This is a totally unique B&B with absolutely huge suites. We stayed in the Oriental and found all the amenities you could ever require. The large screen TV had literally every premium channel imaginable. The breakfast was truly a huge buffet assortment of hot and cold items. The price was very, very reasonable.
Beware, evening dining choices in Hot Springs are limited. We are at the Branding Iron which was okay but nothing special.

Great location on the main street in Hot Springs. First let me say that Liz & Dick Smith made us feel very welcome and were able to answer all our questions on the surrounding area . They are truely nice people! We would highly recommend this B&B to everyone not looking for a full service hotel and wanting a unique experience. The spread for breakfast was great...and we had full access to the kitchen and whatever was in the frig all day long!

Each room was decorated and themed differently. The suites were all very large, separate living room, bedroom, bath (we were able to see all three) and they plan to add three more later). The rate was unbelievable. We were paying more in the surrounding area at Econolodges.

Check it out before you decide to stay elsewhere. Here's their web site: www.smithfargosuites.com
