“Great Weekend”
Reviewed June 5, 2010

We used a free night coupon for an overnight stay as a Gold Hilton HHonors member. After arrival, we were upgraded to a small suite on the 22nd floor.

The room was very spacious for this older hotel and we had a good view of the hills of Cincinnati. The taste of Cincinnati event was right on Fifth Street outside the front entrance but no real noise was noticeable. The suite had two tv's (tube type) with a fair selection of channels.

The bed was extremely comfortable and the air conditioning worked superbly. Having two bathrooms was a real benefit as we could stay out of each others way. While the evening shows across the street as part of the Taste of Cincinnati could be heard, they were not intrusive.

Morning continental breakfast in the Belvedere Room (the executive lounge) was very good with many selections and the outdoor patio offered a fine place to relax after a late rising. The Belvedere Club had free wifi and two computers for guest use.

Valet parking was efficient even with a large number of guests checking out Sunday Morning. The bell staff was excellent as was the Concierge Service.

We have stayed at this hotel before and the service has always been excellent. It is our first choice for a stay in Cincinnati.

Small rooms but very clean. All of the basics are in place.....

Descent beds, good towels, etc....

We were not in our room a lot, but the size may have been an issue if we were.....

I stayed at the Hilton in Cincinnati in early April 2010. I am a Hilton Gold VIP and was given complimentary access to the Belvedere Club upon arrival. The staff were extremely hospitable throughout my stay. I also received a corner room which was more than spacious, with windows overlooking the city on two sides. The breakfast was a bit pricey, but that can be expected at properties like this. The Belvedere Club is a bit dated and could use a remodel. No services in the business center are free, except for boarding pass printing. You must rent a computer to print something remotely. Very frustrating. All in all a great hotel and definitely the best choice downtown. While showing its age, it is still a great place to stay and I frequent this property whenever I am in town.

We enjoyed a weekend stay at this property in late April. We got a good rate on Hotwire, and when I checked in (using my Hilton Amex for incidentals), the staff was kind enough to give me preferred lounge access, which was nice for the complimentary continental breakfast and wifi.

Here are the pluses and minuses of the stay:

+ Great location (walkable to the Reds, Covington, restaurants, etc. Starbucks and Cafe Jean Ro are literally just outside the door and down the street)
+ Impeccably clean room
+ Very comfortable, high-end bed (although a little soft for my taste).
+ High-end linens, really top notch.
+ Historic building
+ Friendly and competent staff

- Small rooms (This didn't bother us, as we love older, historic properties, but if your preference is large/ultramodern, then this hotel may not be for you)
- Slow elevators (It's a big property, and there are only six elevators, shared by staff. Part of the tradeoff of an historic building, but it is what it is)

We would definitely enjoy staying here again!

We were really disappointed with the Hilton Netherland Plaza. Our room was the size of a college dorm room. It felt like we were continuously running into each other because there was hardly any room to move around.

The walls were very thin. When we tried to get our toddler son to take a nap during the day, we were able to very distinctly hear our "neighbors" next to us fighting, after a very loud shower. We had an even worse luck that night when a cheerleading competition and a couple of proms took over the hotel. The staff seemed content to just let the girls run up and down the hallways squealing and cheering. At 10:30 that night, we decided just to cut our weekend short and come back home. Our son wasn't able to fall asleep with all the commotion and changing rooms wasn't going to help since you could hear noise from other floors.

The hotel also has no ramp access to the skywalk meaning we had to carry our stroller up and down the stairs. The skywalk was the only quiet place in the hotel at 10:00 that night. It was also the way we had to take to get to our car.

The last concern we had was that the spare blanket provided in the room had a large, crusted over stain on it. Luckily, we didn't need it but it made us wonder how thoroughly the room(s) had been cleaned. We will definitely not be returning to this hotel again!

Was in town for two nights visiting friends. Chose the Hilton for location, price, and we are Hilton Honors members. I agree with other reviewers that rooms are small and elevators could be slow, but so what? The service was top notch and all the historic detail was superb. It was renovated, clean and very comfortable. Loved the breakfast buffet. It was pricey, but actually cheaper than many other hotel buffets. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.
