Looking for a new spot to try brunch this weekend and after seeing Cumin's menu we were enticed. Had one prior visit on new year's a few years ago which was unimpressive, but since everyone else seems to love it and holidays tend to be a poor time to try out restaurants, I wanted to give it another chance.
Unfortunately, this visit was also well below expectations. First, the menu listed online was not their current menu, apparently it changed several weeks ago but hadn't been updated. It happens, but the menus were starkly different - the online one was considerably more inventive and had higher quality ingredients, while the current one was similar to what you could eat at any average brunch place in the city. To make things worse, when we asked if the menu had currently changed, the serve said "Yeah, a few weeks ago. You know several people at dinner have mentioned that too. We should really update the site."
We decided to stay anyway and had the oatmeal pancakes with cherry jam and almonds and the breakfast sandwich. The pancakes were decent but a little on the dry side. The cherry sauce was tasty though. The breakfast sandwich was bad. It was impossible to eat because it didn't fit on the bread and the oil from the chimichurri (which was not chimichurri) made the egg slide off continuously. If it wasn't for the nice thick cut bacon it would have been a total waste.
Guess I will be sticking to my usual spots for now.
