Description: Following the Jeff Ruby tradition of fine dining in unique settings is Carlo & Johnny. This beautiful mansion has a storied history as a casino and Mafia hangout, adorned with antiques and unique appointments. As for the menu, it's in keeping with the Jeff Ruby tradition; delicious, innovative, and out-of-this-world. And with 15 steaks, it's Ruby's most comprehensive menu ever. The old Hollywood glamour and delicious cuisine promise a meal and experience to remember.

This steak is the best in the city but be prepared to pay for it. In other words this isn't Texas Roadhouse. The sides are decent size and really the best you will find. They really care about what they prepare. Once in a lifetime meal.

Great steaks but the waiter took advantage of us on the drinks. My guest ordered the house red and was served a red which cost $19 per glass - far from house wine prices.
Side salads don't include much but lettuce and our $7-10 each.
Two for dinner, two drinks each, no coffee or dessert, was $180 before tip.

This year, Carlo & Johnny did an Easter Brunch. All I can say is "WOW!" The restaurant is known as a steak house and the NY striploin at the carving station was everything my wife and I expected. But the rest!!! They did a variant of Eggs Benedict - braised short ribs, poached egg, crab and hollandaise sauce on ciabata - that was to die for. The waffle station had four kinds of compound butter. The only one I can remember is the chocolate compound butter - like having chocolate mousse on your waffle, so good. The starters were well done; cheeses, fresh fruit, smoked salmon and three salads. The hot station had salmon, chicken marsala, mashed potatoes, green beans, asparagus, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns. There was an omelet station, too (but with all the other good stuff, I didn't have one). Then the desserts!!! Chocolate mousse, chocolate-peanut butter torte (think a dark chocolate Reese Peanut Butter Cup), key lime pie. My wife and I are hoping this is the start of a tradition.

What could be better than the start of baseball season and Easter weekend? Carlo & Johnny hitting it out of the park with a Grand Slam with their first ever Easter Brunch! Today was the first of what our family and friends hope will be a regular holiday feature and new tradition for us at our favorite restaurant. We all agreed this was the best brunch experience we’ve ever had (and this comes from a bunch of people who are typically not brunch people). We like our food fresh and expertly prepared to order and the CJ’s team delivered in every way.
We were excited to see CJ’s tackle something out of the ordinary. There must have been tremendous effort exerted to insure that guests had the same amazing dining experience they enjoy during dinner service and it showed at every turn. The execution of brunch was flawless. From the friendly greeting of our valet parking team to the hostesses dressed in pretty pastels and the warm aromas wafting into the lobby we knew we were in for a special treat and we were not disappointed. Our reserved table was just what we had requested. Diners weren’t tripping over each other with plenty of room for everyone to move around easily.
The special brunch menu was beautifully detailed and presented at the table (just as you would expect for your evening dining experience). This nice touch gave us all time to think about how we’d spend our calories and wouldn’t be overwhelmed with choices once we headed to the buffet stations. Special compliments to our friends behind the bar. Three excellent options to start the Easter celebration were nicely presented on a small tent menu at our table. Our party had to try all of the beverages and we agreed all were winners. How nice to have something for everyone. The Prosecco Mimosa’s were perfectly chilled. The Sangria included a variety of fresh fruit, Grand Marnier and used a wonderful red wine (a most generous serving and the perfect accompaniment for the feast to come). The winner was the Bloody Mary. We wish we would have taken pictures (next time!). A tall glass filled with a special mix, heavy on the vodka, stuffed with a slender fresh asparagus spear, tender slim designer carrot and topped with a fresh huge shrimp! It was worth every penny and left us wanting more but we knew we had to save room for the feast.
Our highest compliments to Chef Justin and his staff for an amazing job well done. This is a challenge that many could not rise to but this is a team that meets and exceeds expectations. The use of the raw bar serving area and the lounge allowed for all the guests to easily flow through the well organized food stations. The presentation was exceptional. This was no typical hotel or restaurant brunch with the usual items everyone comes to expect. There was something on this menu for everyone and nothing was overlooked. There were beautiful platters of fresh fruit, cheeses, and an abundance of quiches that were substantial and delicious. The eggs Benedict a la CJ’s were sublime; we’ve never had anything this delicious. Fresh waffles with not one but 4 specialty infused butters along with fruit topping and other choices that were amazing. CJ’s signature salmon simmering in their special sauce, carving stations featuring pork loin with the house applesauce and beef with side sauces, the chicken Marsala was perfectly prepared. These were dishes of substance that were well received. All of the chafing dishes were overflowing with our favorite to die for potatoes, hash browns, fresh steamed asparagus and green beans, omelets’, sausage, bacon, pastries….. All of the stations were attended by friendly efficient servers eager to please.
What would we like to see in the future??? A chafing dish of Jeff Ruby’s signature Macaroni and Cheese because this is one of our favorites and it seems that everyone loves this dish no matter what their age.
Desserts included all the CJ’s favorites in perfectly proportioned servings. Our favorite Key Lime Pie, chocolate mousse, the Reese Cup…great sizes to share.
We can’t say enough about CJ’s wait staff. Plates disappeared magically, napkins were deftly refolded and silverware refreshed and water glasses filled all within seconds. Our service was exceptional, unobtrusive, and attentive and we didn’t feel rushed. Please don’t make us wait another year! We’ve heard rumors the brunch will return for Mother’s Day! We’ll be there!
