Tucked away in a shopping center, this place boasts some really good dim sum. All the dumplings we tried were flavorful and tender. The pork ribs were luscious and the BBQ pork was really good--not too sweet. The crab Rangoon was a bit too sweet but, all in all, the food was right on target. The service was excellent and the owners are definitely eager to provide a welcoming and fun atmosphere. Check this place out.

Having lived and worked in HK for years, dim sum is one of our favorite choice for brunch. Being new residents in OH (CIN), our family of 4 had a mission to find a decent dim sum restaurant so we went to the ones recommended (by past residents, current residents as well as the experts for the local dining scene).

Of all the ones we had tried, this is the only one that is closest to the real thing. They even make their own rice noodles (previously frozen ones will never have the same texture and taste as fresh ones which is necessary when you are making 乾炒牛河 Gon chow Ngau Ho aka Beef Chow Fun/Beef stir fried noodle) which is why they are the only one that has the authentic taste as using substitute or at convenience sake is not a part of their routine.

The reason it has a very good rating rather than excellent is coz not everything tasted exactly the same as you would find in HK but this being said, it will be very hard to find one that does. This is a restaurant that had exceeded our expectations (we went to almost all the others before this one) as we were looking for the HK taste. There is a difference when you dine in one that is Taiwanese or from China (from different provinces, there is a difference in taste and choices for dim sum) and since we had found it, we had been regular customers even if we dont live close to it.

If it is your first time there, it is hidden behind Mike's Car Wash (near Olive Garden's parking). Recommended dim sum dishes :

1) Siew Mai (pork dumplings)
2) shrimp dumplings with cilantro (or chives, both are great but we prefer the cilantro ones)
3) Char siew bao (steamed BBQ pork buns, only restaurant that makes its bread soft like you should in a good dim sim restaurant, only way u know it is freshly made and home made)

The above are 3 dishes we always ask for 2 servings (each basket normally comes with 3 except for #1 which is 4) coz it is never enough. The rest on the menu are good choices but these above are our favorites and must be on the table at every visit.

Note : there are a lot more choices during weekends (similar to Asia coz the whole family will be out dining), only time u can find tau fu fa silky tofu dessert. I know it might seem strange but u will never think the same again about tofu. Think a silkier jello (but white) with a sweet ginger essence. The combo is light and sweet. You have an option for a hot or cold bowl. ENJOY !!!

The map on Tripadvisor doesn't show the correct location for this place. Even with the correct location on the GPS, it's still easy to miss this place. The restaurant is on the West end of a strip mall, hidden in a low area behind a car wash. If you search for The Olive Garden or Cracker Barrel, you'll have a better chance of finding this place (just to the East off the drive to Olive Garden or Cracker Barrel).

When seated at the Grand Oriental Restaurant (on a weekday evening), you'll be given menus with many selections of Chinese dishes. This menu doesn't contain the Dim Sum items. Be sure to ask for the special Dim Sum secret menu. You can get many Dim Sum items on weekday evenings (but from the kitchen, not on steam carts).

My mom, wife and I ordered many Dim Sum items and all items were excellent. The Xiaolongbao was good and hot, however not as soupy as I had hoped for. It was better than the XLB I ordered a couple nights before at a restaurant in Louisville Ky. (read my review for Louisville Joy Luck).

The interior of this restaurant is beautifully decorated.

The owner, Henry, came by to explain some of the menu items. He was so kind and we enjoyed conversing with him about Dim Sum and how it is so hard to find good Dim Sum in the middle of the USA. We all agreed that Chinatown at Toronto, Ontario, Canada is a great location to find wonderful Chinese food (and Dim Sum).

If you are traveling through the Cincinnati area and are craving excellent Dim Sum... this is the place to go.

There are almost always new things on the Dim Sum menu. Hard core for me - squid, jellyfish and plenty of vegeterian choicws for my spouse! The prices are reasonable for the time involved in making the dishes. An excellent choice!

We love this restaurant. Henry and Kenny are the best! Ping is a terrific waitress.
Whatever you order is outstanding! Love the sizzling rice soup, pot stickers and crab rangoon for appetisers.
