Our second visit to SwampWater Grill offered us a chef who has grown into his cuisine. The poppers were great; the chargrilled oysters superb. The salad was OK, but the shrimp and grits and the gumbo were right there with what you would find in the better New Orleans restaurants. The craft beer selection and very good service made for a fun, relaxing outing. Bar seating is preferred over the secluded dining area in the front. We will be going back and soon!

Very good Cajun. Been 5-6 times now and have never been disappointed. From the apps to the dinner and drinks all have been outstanding. Most impressive is the blackened pork chop. This bone in chop was huge. about 1 1/2 thick and cooked to perfection. The beans and rice is also wonderful not quite New Orleans great but still would recommend to anyone.
The weekend brunch is also well worth the money. With a made order omlette station to all the usual breakfast staples make this all you can eat brunch well worth it.
The signature drink Swampwater is extremely potent but very good, wouldn't recommend more than one.
I would definitely take some time to visit the little slice of Cajun paradise.

We really liked the Shrimp N' Grits and Catfish. The Jambalaya and Ribs were rather bland. The service was rather slow in this bar setting.

Had great hopes, but didn't quite live up to expectations.

Raw oysters were fresh and not unreasonably priced.
Had sampler of jambalaya, gumbo and shrimp etouffee. Shrimp etouffee was lemony, in fact too lemony. Jambalaya and gumbo were bland, not cajun bland, but plain old bland. A generous dose of hot sauce brought food up to better than edible, but think they ought to respect customers' being knowledgeable enough to use a little heat. Next time, I'll try something blackened.

Our service was good, but there were others around us who were finding it hard to get timely and accurate service.

If you find yourself driving around Kellog Avenue and you want to have a good drink and something that will warm your stomach up in more ways than one, then you might want to consider Swampwater Grill. It has been there since July of 2013 and the menu has many items from Cajun Country. I had the pulled pork BBQ with red beans and rice and Gumbo and my wife had the Shrimp Po-Boy with the Mac and Cheese. Mine was excellent, it all had a very good flavor and really something I would get again. The Po-Boy had about 8 shrimp and a bland dressing though. We both said that the next time we go we would bring our own rumalaud sauce because the one I make would make tough shoe leather taste GREAT. Our friends that we went with had the Gumbo and Swamp Pasta and they both exceeded their expectations. The appetizers were fantastic, we tried the fried mozzarella which is fried in a won-ton and the jalapeno poppers which were smoked and then fried with a piece of bacon and beer batter. So if your looking for somewhere new to go you need to try this out.
