“Maybe one of my best meals ever!”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

The food here is outstanding... everything, beginning with the wine and fresh baked breads, to the fresh fish entre, was a 10+ and the service is exceptional. This was recommended by the Innkeeper at the Clifton House. The combination of the Clifton House and Nicola's -- well it doesn't get much better!

Be sure to make a reservation -- we called ahead and were told we didn't need one on a week night -- don't believe it. We arrived and they were packed. Make a reservation!!

“Fine Dining Italian”
Reviewed June 22, 2014

No matter what we have ordered, it has always been prepared with creativity and exceptional presentation. Troy, our waiter frequently, is excellent at describing the dishes and can be turned loose on your selection of wine (give guidance to price point). If you want a more quiet atmosphere, ask for the back room. The upper floor which is open to the rest of the back room is great for a party of 12 - 20. I find a three course approach with a salad (beet for sure), starter, and a half portion is pasta is plenty of food. We had the Carbonara and Bolognese which were both excellent in preparation and packed with flavor. Following this approach with four glasses of excellent wine and we got out for $150.00.

“Dinner at an"Over the Rhine" Restaurant”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

Four of us had dinner at Nicola's in Cincinnati prior to attending an concert by "Under the Streetlamp" at the Aronoff Center. Nicola's is located in a building which formerly housed cars from a rail line that went through the "Over the Rhine" district. It is a tall building with exposed beams overhead that makes Nicola's an interesting place. The food is very good. We especially enjoyed the bread basket with various breads and crackers made on the premises. We shared a tortelli pasta and a green salad. We were surprised and disappointed at the tiny portions after sharing. Considering the high cost, we expected more generous portions. The atmosphere is interesting, and the servers were very knowledgeable and attentive. But it is a very pricey restaurant. If you want atmosphere, aren't very hungry, and have "deep pockets," you might like it.

“Truly outstanding”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

I was there with two friends but I knew two other groups eating there at the same time --- we were all attending the same conference in Cincinnati. Unanimous opinion: this is a truly excellent restaurant by every measurement --- food, service, ambiance, cost, location. I had the short ribs on a bed of risotto (mushroom plus plus) -- "to die for!" One friend had the branzino, the other pasta --- both loved their entrees.

It was -- simply put -- a truly outstanding meal!

“Why did it take us so long to eat here?”
Reviewed May 18, 2014

Four of us had dinner on May 9 and everything was spectacular. Shared the vitella tonatol and the tuna crudo - wow! The veal was really unique, served cold with delicate cucumber and quail egg. The tuna was excellent also. If you enjoy beet salads you've got to have this one! Three types of beets, slightly pickled served with an excellent black quinoa and goat cheese - yum! Then, two of us split the farfalle which was plenty of food after appetizer and salad. The gelato sampler was delicious and fun (as samplers should be). Service was as good as the food and the old street car barn that the restaurant iis in provided a special ambiance.
