What else can I say? This hole in the wall bar in Mt. Adams has the best view in town. Order a Hudy beer and sit out on the patio for spectacular views of downtown and the river. Perfection!

“No Better View on Earth”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

It only took one look out the picture window at the end of the bar for me to turn to the bartender and say, "How much are the tickets?" He immediately replied, "you'll have to call Debbie tomorrow." I was kidding, he wasn't. On Sunday night of Labor Day Weekend, WEBN, a local rock-n-roll radio station, sponsors what has become over the last 30 years an extravaganza of Rozzi's Famous Fireworks set to a soundtrack broadcast over WEBN. The celebration itself draws a half million people to the Ohio and Kentucky riverfront for this event. Anyone who has a residence overlooking the river where the firework are shot off suddenly has an immense number of friends coming out of the woodwork wanting to be invited over that Sunday night.
The City View Tavern, with its marvelous view of the river(see pictures below) and the fireworks site has solved this problem by hosting a private, tickets only, party during the fireworks. Limited to 28 people, the max, I suspect, the fire department permits on the deck, this year the tix are $75 a head which includes watching the fireworks from their deck, use of the barrel of beer provided, and the eats provided by the CVT. After the fireworks is over around 10 P.M., the place opens to the general public.
With a couple of days off and gas costing what it does, my wife and I decided to visit spots in Cincy we've never visited or haven't visited recently, even though we both were born and raised here, instead of going out of town. Since this day was the butterfly exhibit at Krohn Conservatory, one of the six must see gems of Cincinnati, I hit the T/A list of restaurants to pick someplace different for lunch after KC. CVT jumped right out - it's got a history with my family - and is just around the corner from KC.
Don't expect the Ritz - this is just a friendly, neighborhood kind of place, although a little hard to find( in Mt. Adams, take Monastery St., turn on Oregon St.) with a gangbuster view of the city. A little tree trimming would make it even better. With the exception of a salesman making calls on his cell after lunch, we were the only people in the place at 2 P.M. on a Monday.
Food is typical bar fare, tastey, and reasonably priced, which with Cincy's cost of living is considerably less than most major urban areas. We selected burgers and got a large juicey burger(properly cooked) on a bun through the garden with a bag of Husman's potato chips. This surprized me, I expected loose chips.
The bartender was working by himself doing the cooking and serving, and you couldn't ask for better, more friendly service - a true professional.
Sunsets must be magnificent from this place - got to go back and find out!!!

Sorry for our slow response to your kind words. We hope you've been back to see a sunset. Also, the city is quite beautiful on a winter night.

This is a friendly laid back place. Where people of all backgrounds rub elbows. Whether you are a regular or visiting from out of town, you will be treated like an old friend. The view is the best view of downtown you will find.

Thanks for your positive review. We constantly strive to provide our guests with the experience you had. One of the components of this experience is the word-of-mouth "advertising" you give us. Thanks again ... we're glad you enjoyed yourself, and hope you return soon.

“Hidden gem in Mt. Adams with a great burger”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

City View Tavern is often called a "dive bar" or a "hole in the wall" place. It is also a hidden gem in Mt. Adams because it offers a nice view of downtown and the river. It serves a great burger (Big Ted Deluxe) for $6 and its beer prices are quite good as well. Both the bartender and the patrons are quite friendly.

The only factors preventing City View Tavern from getting a 5-star rating are 1) its limited space; 2) not all beers on tap are available; and 3) there are no waiters or waitresses.

We're glad you enjoyed your visit to City View, and hope you'll return again soon. We take pride in the food we serve. Our goal is to provide an outstanding product using the best ingredients available, and to sell it at a reasonable price, cooked and served by friendly personnel who care. We hope we met our goals. To address your "negatives" ... as much as we'd like to expand, we're restricted by municipal code to our present size. We apologize for running out of some drafts. We recently installed additional taps, and are still trying to figure out how many barrels we need to meet our customer's demand. As far as no servers, it's an ancient tradition at City View; however, we have contemplated breaking with tradition on our busier nights. Thanks for the positive review.

“Best burgers & view in Cincinnati”
Reviewed November 9, 2011

This place looks like a hole in the wall from the street in this trendy neighborhood. But once inside, the warmth of the bar staff and regular patrons welcomes you. Order your beverages (good selection of seasonal tap beers) and food at the bar, as there is no wait staff. Their burgers are the best in town and have won many awards. They are hand made and usually highly seasoned. Because they are hand made, they take awhile to make. Then saunter out to the small deck. Grab a table near the rail and breathe in the most beautiful view of the Ohio River, downtown Cincinnati, and the northern Kentucky hillside. There are plenty of folding chairs near the door if you can't get a table right away. Just hang out on the deck and one will come available before your burgers arrive!! Enjoy!
