We usually try to get to a fire museum when we're on vacation so we decided to check this one out. They have some very interesting old pieces including the last Ahrens-Fox ever built, which makes sense since Ahrens-Foxes were built in Cincinnati. They also have several hose wagons, old hand pumpers, and antique aerial apparatus. They also tell the history of the Cincinnati Fire Department, which we learned is the oldest paid fire department in the country. Well worth a visit!

Be sure to start your tour viewing the video in the basement level, as it provides an excellent history of Cincinnati's experience and influence on fire fighting locally and internationally! There is a reasonable array of past fire fighting equipment, but not current, and would have been even better with an exhibit of a regular firehall with a sliding pole.

The fire museum is very neat. There is a fire pole for kids to slide down. A active hand pump fire wagon. Plenty of pictures and displays. Horse drawn ladders, hose wagons and water carts. Two real trucks. A 1926 Ahrens Fox. Beautiful. And a newer model that was used in a suburban Cincinnati department.

Parking is crazy. Don't park in the lots around the museum. Non are designated for fire museum. You maybe towed...on street parking available. Bring coins to feed meter.

Also check out the police museum. It's at the Cincinnati Ohio police federal credit unit, a 5-10 min drive.

This fire museum is well put together, clean and attractive layout. My boyfriend was a firefighter so we decided to visit this museum. I was very interested in it! It has a fireman's pole for you to slide down. Life-size firetrucks for children (and adults) to sit in. Many many older pictures and equipment displayed. AAA offers a discount too! The gentleman in the gift shop informed us of that, prior to our ticket purchase.

While some of the exhibits could use some updating, this is a great way to view the history of firefighting in Cincinnati and in general. Lots of old equipment well-presented. Plus helpful and informative fire safety information. For a niche museum they do a great job. I believe it is also available for special events, receptions, etc...
