Owner description: Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center stands as the nation's newest monument to freedom. It brings to life the importance - and relevance - of struggles for freedom around the world and throughout history, including today.

I found this museum fascinating, although it was probably not ideal for my young children.

The museum does a great job of explaining the entire history, from its roots in the triangular trade between Africa, the Carribean and Europe, to the cotton plantations of the American South to the American civil war, to segregation and the still relevant impacts on the lives of many Americans.

What it also does (and whilst this is seen as seen as "political" by some reviewers) is bring up the fact that slavery is not simply an interesting historical phenomenon but an ongoing problem for the world, from domestic servants to agricultural labour and to prostitution. It should make people think about what they can do now to make a difference.

This is a amazing museum. It is very moving. The exhibits are very well done. It is a modern museum, with great architecture. They have an original slave pen, and many other artifact. They also have some stuff on the Civil Rights Movement and Slavery today. Must see in Cincinnati.

After seeing "12 Years A Slave" we stopped by the Freedom Center, and they have incorporated the Solomon Northup story into many of the exhibits. And they bring the story of slavery into the present by chronicling the widespread abuse of workers around the world.

We went to see the African American quilt exhibit which was very moving. The museum is wonderful and covers a dark part of U.S. history honestly but what an important focus on uplifting stores and an eye toward a better future. The exhibits are terrific and the layout is open and engaging. This is a must see for people of all ages.
