“Wonderful building, great temp exhibits!”
Reviewed January 11, 2012

This is a Zaha building, that was called one of the U.S.'s most significant contemporary structures by the NY Times when it opened. If you're interested in this architecture, you should also see the architecture at the Univ of Cinti. The Contemp Art Center is right down and has no permanent collection, but has fabulous temporary contemporary exhibits. So have a look online & visit.

“Great Monday Night!”
Reviewed September 18, 2009

I was in Cincinnati for a week on business and wanted to find things to do in the evening. The CAC is open late on Monday nights and is FREE after 5:pm. I enjoyed the exhibits very much as well as spending the evening in the downtown area. The CAC is located very close to Fountain Square and several restaurants. I very much enjoyed myself.

“A gem in everyday downtown Cincinnati”
Reviewed August 27, 2007

Fabulous building. Really eclectic very-modern collection (if a little jumbled and over-filled). Do make the effort to get to the top floor to see the 'Un-Museum' and what a living art museum really should be like - hands on, fun, innovative, accessible. It's fabulous. Highly recommended. Don't be put off by the no photos/all bags in lockers rules at the entrance - it really is worth the hassle. Good gift and bookshop.

“A Unique Art Museum”
Reviewed August 3, 2006

Recently, I spent three interesting hours at this fine downtown museum. I enjoyed its external and internal architecture. I saw numerous fascinating creations. When I visited,I enjoyed the creations of Los Carpinteros, Ant Farm("Cadillac Ranch"), Eric Brass, and Luensman. This is not a traditional art museum-no Rembrandts, no Monets, and no Botticellis. Nevertheless, it was an enlightening experience.

“A waste of money!”
Reviewed February 24, 2005

This place was a waste of money! We had seen several magazine articles giving it good reviews, especially for the layout of the museum itself. But if you are not REALLY, REALLY into "contemporary Art" don't waste your money. We got off on the top floor and all there was was a broken bottle of beer. We figured they must still be working on the exhibit. We went down to the next floor and guess what? Another broken beer bottle in the same spot. It was the same of every floor. That was a part of the exhibit. One exhibit had dirty classes with names on them. The "artist" kept the dirty drinking glasses of friends and wrote the friend's name on the glass and there you have his exhibit. Of course, the CAC is famous in Cincinnati for the Maplethorpe exhibit. It was not there at the time but they did have a little space devoted to some porn artists. It was a huge waste of time and money for my husband and I who are just ordinary people and just don't "get" that other people consider this art.
