Description: The heritage of Cincinnati's storied brewing history comes alive along the banks of the Ohio River at this world-class restaurant and brewery. Prominently situated in the dynamic Smale Riverfront Park, the Moerlein Lager House offers a guest experience unlike any other—a working microbrewery producing a full line of Moerlein craft brews, and delectable fare featuring grain spent breads, hand-carved sandwiches, and smoked rotisserie meats… foods reminiscent of those served in the city’s celebrated 19th century beer gardens.

“nice place, great view, great beer selection, food OK”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Been to the Lager house three times now. The beer selection is very good, prices are not bad. Place is large and has nice river views and is right by the Reds ballpark. Coffee creme broulet dessert is very good. Onion rings are not, they taste like something out of a freezer box and have been there for a long time. The food overall is decent, but nothing to write home about. The waiter sold the prime rib like it was the second coming, but it turned out to be just another prime rib. Not bad, no complaints, but again just standard restaurant fare. A good experience going there and I am sure we will again, but mostly for the view and proximity to other entertainment locations in the Banks on the Riverfront. I second the other review's observation in that it gets loud in there, not from rowdy customers, just all the stone and hard wood and the design seems to amplify the sound. I DO NOT second the review where the guy was offended that they could not sit 24 people at one table, that is unrealistic to expect of most restaurants. Staff is nice and friendly and food comes out quickly.

“Good Beer, Tasty Food, Casual Atmosphere”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

We recently took our parents (from out of town) to Moerlein Lager House. We had reservations and were seated quickly. We started with the fried pickles & Ahaheim peppers and the beer cheese and pretzels, and beer of course. All were very good. We all ordered different entrees, and all were very tasty. Our waiter Patrick did a great job as well. Overall a great experience and definitely a restaurant where we will eat again.

Tip: make reservations ahead of time, even for a weekday, as the place always seems busy

“Good food, Great location, Slow service”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Food is very good, location is great, right next to the ballpark, parking underneath, we were there on a non game day Saturday so it was very easy to get in/out, drink service was fast, servers were friendly, however food took much too long to arrive and detracted from the whole experience, perhaps there was a problem in the Kitchen, we will give them a second chance.

“Pretty good service, pretty loud dining area and average food.”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We went here for my birthday with a group of about 10 people on a Friday. Given that, the service was excellent. There were only a few misses which were completely understandable given the crowd.
The dining room was way too noisy to hear anyone at the other end of the table. I would avoid this place if you had a large group.
The food was ok. We tried quite a few appetizers and they were all average to slightly above average. The waiter recommended the beef, but it wasn't that great. The burgers looked decent, but overpriced.
The drinks are pretty good, but we had much better drinks when we went to the 2nd floor bar and had personalized service from the bartender when there wasn't a crowd. The pricing is a little high on these, but when they're made right, it's not that bad.
The beer is pretty good, but they have a LONG way to go to compete with the new Yard House when it comes to beer on draught.

So, would I recommend it? Maybe. If it's not crowded, you want appetizers more than a meal and you're ok with a more limited selection of beer it shouldn't be that bad. For most other occassions, I'd probably skip it and try something else.

“Spicy Food & Good Beer”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Sports central between Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium. Nestled against the Ohio River it's steeped in beer history. Try the Hunter Stew and Angry Mac & Cheese.
