The playhouse in the park is always great - A Christmas Carol is a tradition and the plays all year round are worth a visit. Walk the Mt Adams area after for a drink and dinner

Beautifully situated in Cincinnati's lovely Eden Park, up the hill from Krohn's conservatory, and just down the street from Mt. Adams, the Playhouse has multiple theaters, and sponsors well performed and interesting plays throughout the season. Make a day of it, with a picnic lunch in the park or a stroll through Mt. Adams & a meal at one of their unique establishments, a visit to the Ohio Overlook, then the Krohn's conservatory, ending up with a play. Can't go wrong.

Nice plays and a great area. There are ways, such as 2 hours before a show, to get discount tickets, because they are pricey!

Not a bad seat in either of the theatres. Most of the productions are first class although occassionally they produce a stinker. Sometimes overpriced - especially for midweek performances. Easy parking, good web site, lots of opportunities to interact with the actors, producers, directors, etc. Much better than almost any theatre outside of Broadway.

Recently, we attended the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, two actor stage performance of RED, a winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play. It is a story of the noted painter Mark Rothko and the communication-bainter with his assistant Ken.

We were so impressed with this Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park production, under the artistic production of Edward Stern, that we felt it necessary to attend more plays before Ed Stern retires in 2012. The next day we purchased tickets for Stephen Sondheim's musical "Merrily We Roll Along", and Keith Glover's musical "Thunder Knocking on the Door". We attended the previous production of "Thunder" a number of years past, and are interested to see how it will be showcased this time.

Today, there is a search on for the replacement of Mr. Stern, who has announced his retirement after the 2012 season this spring. He hasbrought world-wide prominence to the arts and live-theatre scene in Cincinnati through its technical and skilled productions, actors. playrights and regional and national awards.

Since 1992, when Ed Stern arrived at the Cincinnati Playhouse, there has been increased acceptance, success, attendance and season subscriptions, to the large seating capacity (626) Marx Theatre, and the small itimate (seating of 225), Thompson Shelterhouse Theatre. Most presentations are extended runs of four or five weeks.

If there is a production or play that you are interested in, better order tickest early ( like we did) because performances sell out , and then you go onto a stand-by list if available.
