My husband and I, during a weekend stay in Cincinnati August 10-12, dined at A Tavola on August 11th. A friend had mentioned her top-three restaurant choices, and we were in a pizza mood. We arrived around 7:30 and put our name in with the hostess. We expected to wait as we read some reviews, but no worries, as the hostess offered to phone my cell phone once a table became available. This freed us up to wander around the Over The Rhine neighborhood and we popped in and out of several shops over the next 30 minutes, until the call came.
It was a lovely evening, so given the option of dining al fresco, we chose it. The table was tiny and space was a bit cramped, but we still found the experience worth it. We were lucky enough to be assigned Heather as our server and she was incredible. Because it was our first time there, she went over the method of baking the pizza, the highlights on the menu, and her favorites. We decided to start with two of her favorites, the meatball slider trio (one of each: eggplant, beef, and chicken) and the heirloom tomato brushetta. She also suggested the Jaja Gabor for a cocktail, and it was a light and delicious wine spritzer sort of drink. I ended up ordering two.
Because her previous advice had been so delicious, we then asked Heather to recommend a pizza. We ordered the arugula, prisciutto, and fig jam pizza. It sounded a bit adventuresome for my husband, in particular, but it was absolutely delicious and we finished every morsel. At that point, we were quite satisfied, but decided we had room for a bit of a sweet ending, and Heather recommended the soft serve gelato. The salty caramel gelato was served with toasted mini marshmallows and caramel sauce AND a shot of bourbon. Absolutely divine and I didn't waste the shot of bourbon, either!
This restaurant will definitely be on our list to visit again.
