“eclectic”

Eclectic cinema with eclectic patrons would be acceptable if the building did not seem so tired and grungy. Everything seemed like it could use a good cleaning so I didn't trust the food.

“The Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Not only is it a very clean, quiet theater; but it is 101 years old!! With high ceilings and some of the most interesting and unique art work (most for sale!) this is a GREAT place to go see indie movies as well as big time shows. We were looking for "Her" and it had disappeared from everything except the Oscars. But, we found it here! Without the ga-zillion previews--yes there were some, but not the 30 minutes worth you usually see--it was nice to sit down and watch a movie! The popcorn has REAL butter and is fresh. The employees are courteous and pleasant. This is a great movie experience and the surrounding locations are great for strolling, shopping and if you're up for vegan--it's there!

“Best theatre for tight pockets!!”

This is one of the best theatres in Clifton area if you are on a tight budget. The student and adult admission are very well priced.they screen a lot of indie movies and some big blockbusters as well.the screen is fairly big for a theatre of this category.Lookout for Bearcat coupons if you are a UC student!!

“Who doesn't love an indie local movie house?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

We are so lucky to have the Esquire in Cincinnati - always the latest indie films, great "happenings" (don't miss Sing-Along White Christmas) and more. Even their coming attractions & previews are clever and different featuring many of their employees. Add booze and the usual concessions and life is very very good.

“Wonderful, small theatre in great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

The Esquire shows a wide variety of indie films that often can't be found elsewhere in Cincinnati. It is located in the old Clifton area of Cincinnati and is loaded with character. Tickets and snacks are reasonably priced, and the staff is always friendly. Nearby are many small restaurants and small shops. It's a gem and I love it.
The reasons that I rated it a 4 rather than 5 are that parking is a bit of a challenge (so allow a couple of extra minutes; there is a lot on a parallel street) and some of the viewing rooms are relatively small (which is nicely intimate but if you wind up having to sit in the front you may have to crane your neck to see). I highly recommend checking out the Esquire for an enjoyable movie going experience.
