“Historic Cemetery and Arboretum”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

IF you are interested in history and love trees and plantings this is your place. Some of the great Civil War Generals are buried in Spring Grove Cemetery as well as local luminaries. By going to the visitors center when you enter the cemetery off of Spring Grove Ave. they will be happy to give you maps and information about this historic place. There are also several races/ walks which happen on weekends for charity so DO check online to see if one of these is happening or you will be sharing the peace of this place with several hundred people.

“History and Beauty”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Spring Grove Cemetery is a very large cemetery that is full of history and is beautifully landscaped. Among the people resting here are Jesse and Hannah Grant, the parents of President Ulysses S. Grant, Salmon P. Chase who served as Treasury Secretary under Abraham Lincoln and later the 6th Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court. Also resting here is New York Yankee Manager Miller Huggins. The cemetery has miles and miles of paved roads that is popular with the area residents who use them for daily walks. Beautifully landscaped and the thousands of ornate monuments make this a unique Cincinnati Attraction.

“A special and unique destination in Cincinnati”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We love coming to Spring Grove. There is much to love about this place. It is steeped in history. You can walk through many decades of Cincinnati and American history by looking at the tombstones and getting tour information from the extremely helpful staff at the visitor's center. Makes one appreciate the role this city has played in the evolution of the United States. And of course there is the physical beauty of the place. It is a huge and sprawling cemetery with many kinds of plants and trees. My grandparents - both of whom were naturalists and are buried here - used to come and catalogue both the trees and plants they observed as well as the turtles in the lakes on the property. Do yourself a favor and take an afternoon to walk and drive through Spring Grove. You will appreciate a different side of Cincinnati.

A beautiful place. If you have to die, this is a nice alternative! It was such a beautiful place that it would be nice to hike there. We had a picnic near a families plot.

“Superb history and a great walk.”

Spring Grove Cemetery is truly beautiful and full of history. Although my wife and I got a bit lost exploring using a guidebook, it was a wonderful morning full of quiet and reflection.
