We always have a wonderful time at the zoo!. Spring is always a beautiful time because of the thousands-literally- of tulips, flowering shrubs, perinnels and annuals. There are beautiful butterfly gardens that reach their full beauty in summer and the trees in fall are spectacular and the Festival of Lights- in winter- has millions of lights and animated animals. the Children's zoo is small but up close and personal and the Manatee area is one where the kids can be close to the action. A new giraff and elephant area is a lot of fun. Note: there are lots of hills, so this can be a workout but there is a train to ride as well as a "bus" The picnic area has a play area for the kids and some fast food, Starbucks, drinks, smoothie and "dippin dots"- so there is a chance to rest. Make sure to get a map- lots of twists and turns. The lines for admission and the food can really get long so a trip early might avoid some of the crowds. Try to plan to eat at unusual times to avoid some of the lines. You can bring in food and drinks. Remember sunscreen. Bathrooms are really spaced apart-plan accordingly!
