Spend at least 2-3 hours to get through everything. Very clean and the grandkids beg to go back, even my 13 yo.

I have lived in Cincinnati my whole life and been to UnionTerminal and the Cincinnati Museum Center around 50-70 times. I have seen every I-max ever shown there.

Please understand the Pompeii exhibit is completely separate from the natural history, science and I-max portions of the museums. Today, June 21,2012, I went to the Pompeii exhibit only.

Positives...very professionally done and traffic flowed well. The audio was pretty cool and the audio, movie clips and exhibit explanations were all very informative! There was a variety of things to look at such a plaster casts of victims as they died, paintings, pottery, scales, coins, medicinal objects and the list goes on...the museum attendants were very knowledgeable and added great insights! The end of the exhibit also included displays showing all the world's current volcanos and their activity.

Negatives...it was COLD. I mean teeth chattering, nose for an ice cube cold. It was 95 degrees the day I went and the exhibit is in the basement. This might not sound like a big deal but my parents left it was so cold. The price of admission does not include the audio guide. The attendant said the exhibit should take 60-90 minutes but if you really read it takes 3 hours. Personally I think this is a positive if your paying around twenty dollars to visit! It was a tremendous amount of reading and hard reading where you can't skim if you really want to understand and get it!

Conclusion...please go! Dress yourself in many layers and be prepared to read. Give yourself time to truly enjoy the experience and for goodness sake unless you have the world's calmest most docile child don't bring anyone under about fourteen. The Cincinnati Museum Center has many great things for kids but Pompeii isn't one of them even if they do have kids audio guides. All the young and elderly looked miserable. Buy the audio guide and chuck it up to a donation
for a world class exhibit! Learn a great part of history and enjoy!

Just an FYI I am29 and my parents are about 60ish. There isn't a category for that sort of visit.

I used to live in Cincinnati when Union Terminal sat idle. A unique train station built during the FDR era, it is visible from many locations in Cincinnati. When I returned to visit my brother, I took my daughter to the Museum Center.

The exhibits, the IMAX theater and the building itself make the trip more than worthwhile. I highly recommend buying a package ticket, especially if you bring the kids or are a member of an organization such as AAA, which offers discounts.

Be sure to try the acoustical marvel at the entrance. You can position yourself at one side of the parabola of the dome, and the person on the other side (100 feet away or more) can hear you. It works, try it!

Highly recommended for anyone with kids and all architecture buffs. The building offers a great backdrop for pictures.

The kids loved the Childrens' Museum as they played for hours. The Natural History museum was very interesting.

This place is awesome if you have kids between 3 and 12. Buy the passes for all three museums. It is well worth it. Membership is also great value. Food court is okay and there are no nearby restaurants unless you go to Fountain Square or head back towards Mason. Great place for little kids - bring along an extra pair of clothes due to the water play area at the kids museum.
