If you are more of a foodie, then you will really appreciate the Chef's homemade preparations and flavor developments. Service is very engaging and knowledgable.

“One of the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2010

This past June, my wife and I ate at Saffron for the third time, and it was simply wonderful. As billed, the menu has a pronounced Mediterranean influence, which I find very agreeable. The strength of the cuisine was the way that different flavors and textures blended together harmoniously. I found it amazing to find such sophisticated food in a rural setting hours from any metropolitan area. The meal that I had was among the best that I've ever had. The service is good, and the atmosphere is accomodating -- guests can dress up a bit or come dressed in a casual style.

“A great restaurant experience - most of the time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2010

Three years ago when we first visited Saffron, shortly after they opened, the restaurant was new and fresh and funky. The clientele were typically foodies who wanted something different than the standard food that is common in Walla Walla. It was a great experience.

Fast forward to now when we made our latest visit to Saffron for dinner. The food is still good, basically Spanish tapas and some Middle Eastern-inspired dishes, all executed well. The wine list includes a number of local bottles as well as those from other parts of the world, with many in a "reasonable" price range. What has changed since 3 years ago is the service, and it has gone downhill, including the personalized contact with the owner.

At our most recent dinner at Saffron, the evening started out fine. We were seated quickly (had reservations) and the server told us about the menu and got us started with a bottle of wine and some tapas. As the restaurant started refilling with the 8-830pm seating, the service started going downhill. Runners brought food out to our tables, which is fine, but the server never returned. We could see her covering tables outside in the front of the restauant as well as towards the back of the small place. We wanted to order another two glasses of wine but couldn't get anyone's attention. So much time had passed since anyone came to our table that we just lost interest in the meal after about 1/2 way through the entree.

As we were considering getting up to find someone to give us a bill so we could escape, the server finally came over to our table just like the 30 minutes of waiting didn't happen. "Are you still working on that?" she asked. Uhhh, no, we were done "working on that" a half hour ago and it's cold now. She continued with a pitch for the dessert for the 2nd time but we just wanted to get out of there. We paid the bill and as we were walking out the front, the co-owner stuck her head out the door with a loud voice saying "GOOD NIGHT! THANKS FOR COMING!". We were startled and felt it was just the normal procedure, but we would have preferred something along the lines of a quiet conversation to see how our dining went.

So, overall not so great an experience. Would we go back? Maybe. I'd love to understand more if this restaurant was having a temporary server shortage or if they really are just trying to do so much business that they are over their heads.

“HMMM. FIND A BETTER VENUE”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2010

Flavor was wonderful, BUT, way too many tables and action in the restaurant.
Better places to eat with ambiance like T.Mac's that are quiet, great service and yummy food. Have considered dinner at Saffron for a year, finally did it and it was SO disappointing, what can I say....way too loud, out of regular entree's that were promoted.
