“Big city in the small town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

This is one of my most favorite restaurants. Not just in Walla Walla but in Washington, in the US for that matter. The staples are always there but the menu changes enough that every time I'm in W2 (at least once a month) there are new menu items. I have yet to have anything that is less than stellar, yet to experience an off night, yet to feel less than I am a long lost friend.

“Lukewarm food, bad experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013

We made our reservation 2 months in advance on recommendation of a friend. We were seated, and the chicanery began. The appetizers showed up in a timely manner, but the entrees did not come for another hour and a half, and were lukewarm at best with very skimpy portions. This restaurant has the potential to be good, but the house management is terrible and the waitstaff is indifferent to their guests. The coordination of ordering and service was horrid and the restaurant environment was noisy, cold and very unfriendly. A couple that arrived at the same time we did was turned away, but came back later an hour and a half later and sat near us. They received their food, ate, paid and left before we received our entrees This restaurant is having consistency problems that are going to be the end of them if not corrected. Our bill was $260 for five people. We wrote a letter to the restaurant highlighting our experience, and received a very snooty response stating that we could go somewhere else. They made no attempt to apologize or make right in any way for their inexcusable actions. There is no way we are ever making another visit to this establishment.

“Good Stuff”

The food was very good. Staff was very helpful and attentive. The lamb flat bread was killer. This is a must stop in Walla Walla.

“An outstanding evening!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

We had friends from NYC visiting this week, so Saffron was the natural choice for our group of very food savvy guests. Island, Chris and team did not disappoint. The evening was flawless! We started with pork belly appetizers and their-now-famous lahmacun (featured in November 2013 Bon Appetit), to our entrees: Manti pasta, Heritage Chicken (ordered by the NY chef) and the steak special. Equally outstanding were Bo's wine recommendations - very affordable choices from Cotes-de-Rhone ($40) and a Nebbiolo ($45). As innkeepers, we recommend Saffron as a must-visit for our foodie guests and they are rarely disappointed. However, reservations are a must, except in the summer, when outside seating may be available. We have guests who eat there twice during their three night stay.

“A really fine restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013 via mobile

Every time I go to Walla Walla I try to eat here. The food and the service is outstanding. It does have some quirks. It makes very efficient use of space so tables are close together with a very strange entrance where you have to wait behind a curtain to be seated. At Saffron it is hard to get into eat without a reservation but if you come in after 8:00 it is possible.

As much as possible the food is sourced locally and the menu has some very interesting food that may not be for everyone but is great for those more adventuresome in there tastes. The basic mixed green salad was by itself good enough to come here to eat. The bread is good and they have an excellent wine list both local and international.

The food is exquisitely prepared and presented. The portions are what you would expect at a fine restaurant meaning not to large.

If you are happiest at the country Buffett this is not your place but if you enjoy really good food served in a rather close environment you will love Saffron.
