“Our place for twelve years”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013 via mobile

That's how long we've been dining at Whitehouse Crawford on average about once or twice a month. Not once have had anything other than fine food and great service. Do we know what fine food is? Yes, as a matter of fact we do. Our favorite spot is at the chef's counter where we can watch the choreographed dance of food prep while enjoying a relaxed evening.

“Bring your slippers and a good book”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012

Have dined at W-C many times in the past and have generally enjoyed the experience but the last two visits have caused me to sit down and compose this review. We travel to Walla Walla 3-5 times each year and have done so over the past seven years.

Booked a table for 4 during Holiday Barrel Tasting a few weeks back. Can't recall for sure, but believe that cancellation less than 48 hours before our appointed time would result in a charge to the cc used to book the res. Nothing about refunds for an extended stay.

Anyway, we arrived 5-10 minutes early and we seated at a nice table. The restaurant busy but by no means full and a number of diners were wrapping up their meal.

We placed an order for drinks and an appetizer and engaged in small talk and consulted the menu. About 20 minutes after begin seated we had our drinks and had placed our orders for food (nothing complicated and nothing off-menu) and a moderately expensive bottle of wine and then...we waited...and we waited...and we waited.

My now the restaurant was significantly less populated and we waited... Not much in the way of communication from staff about the eff was going on. No comped appetizer, nada.

The food finally arrived around 9:40pm. That is not a typo. Other than "we were very busy tonight" we didn't get any information as to what had happened. Obviously by 9:40pm the restaurant was close to empty.

While Holiday Barrel Tasting is an "event weekend", the restaurant trade is a service industry and the service here was poor.

Walla Walla has seen a number of new restaurants open in the past 1-2 years. I'll consider other options.

“Company Christmas Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

From the beginning, I knew I could relax in planning the company's Christmas Party. Emily, the manager handled every detail to the tee, from recommending a local florist for centerpieces, to setting up a personalized menu.
When it came time for the dinner, the staff was EXCELLENT in service. The chefs prepared amazing appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. I cannot emphasize how special this place is. If you are looking for a special place for a special event, let it be "Whitehouse Crawford". Cheers staff, you make this place worth coming back to!

“A Serious Restaurant in a Remarkable Building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

I'm not generally a fan of large open space restaurants; they tend to be noisy and "cold." Whitehouse-Crawford is an exception. Perhaps it's because they have resisted the temptation to jam as many tables as possible into the room; perhaps they've considered the acoustics. In any case, it all works. But the real story is the food: creative, fresh, and prepared in the open kitchen that is the focus of one side of the restaurant. Everything we ate was excellent, in particular a smoked trout salad and an outstanding duck dish (that might benefit from a bit less sauce). The hard part was choosing from the enticing menu. We'll just have to go back.

“Go Here to Wine Delight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

though, usually I go solo, to sit and eat at the bar, and always it is a joyous fest of sharing the incredible landscape hereabouts with visitors...we are in this together, and hereby we pledge the joy of an amazing selection of wines, lastly a serene riesling local for desert, but before red pledge with bar delectables...tamal mushrooms, fettuccine mushrooms, curry mushrooms..ahah! the secret hereabouts is mushrooms! and, what could be better butter with wine, lots of wine, & laughter. That White House - Crawford. A place to get your wine nose adjusted in good company.
