This National Monument is a very interesting site and tells of the interaction between local indian tribes, local missionaries, and new settler's on the Oregon Trail. See the movie it is very good.

“A national park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

A beautiful site right off the highway filled with history. Staffed by Washington State forest rangers you will learn while you walk in the museum, view the short film, and walk the grounds. The museum if free, donations accepted.

Not much to see. Watched a video about the site. In and out in about 25 mins, the video lasted 20 mins.

“Quite a history lesson!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

This is the location of the mission started by Marcus Whitman and his wife.

They worked with the Indians and everything was OK until there was a measles outbreak It seemed to hit the Indians harder than the white folks.
The Chief;s child died and he blamed Whitman and he and he was massacred.

Take time to see the free 20 minute movie.

Very well done - nice walking trails with signs explaining things - local college kids ate a picnic dinner in the mission area grass.
