15 family members stayed at the Marcus Whitman from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday morning. Everyone was appreciative of the personable, knowledgeable and gracious staff at the Marcus Whitman. Excellent rooms in the west wing and, of course, the tower, all with nice amenities. Staff in The Marc accommodated our large group for the hotel's terrific breakfast each morning and made sure we together. Christmas decorations arrived overnight to the delight of our 4+ year old granddaughter. Beautiful lobby areas have guests vying for what they consider to be the best seating areas, but truly there are many to be had. Could not recommend the hotel more highly; and even better, it is located downtown with easy access to the unique tasting rooms and shops that make Walla Walla such a special place.

Our second stay at the Marcus Whitman was most memorable. We had two negatives to report, one of which is unfortunately just a product of our current societal norm, and not necessarily that of the hotel. I will begin with the negatives as we will have fond memories of our stay, and the positives far outweigh the negatives.

There are becoming far too many animals sharing living quarters with humans who are paying a dear price for a typically two day stay to include a dining and sleeping experience to remember. The thought that a dog or cat had probably slept in the bed in which I was resting my head within the past few nights is a disturbing thought to go to sleep with. Although we grew up with dogs as pets and raised a family which included dogs and a couple of cats, we would not have expected to have them share our living quarters while vacationing at public hotels, etc. Establishments such as the Marcus Whitman cannot necessarily be expected to exclude themselves from a growing market share, i.e. the new family that places animals on a plane with humans. However, it seems that there must be an equally large share of guests, such as us, that quietly share the hallways, rooms and restaurants with these animals and would rather not do so. It seems reasonable to expect that these animals take a toll on rooms designed for human habitation, due to inevitable "accidents", etc. It also seems equally impossible that, although we request rooms that do not allow pets, the hotel could possibly guarantee that we are not in a room that recently had a carpet spot cleared of droppings, or fleas transferred from a pet to our bed. To close out this rant, it would be refreshing to find a hotel of this caliber that prohibits animals from roaming the halls and creating the feel (and odor) of a kennel.

The second complaint is regarding the thin walls between rooms, and our hearing the neighbor's T.V. Throughout much of the night.

Now to the positive thoughts, which again, far outweigh the downside. The staff is outstanding. All seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs, and want to assure that the guests feel welcome and appreciated. We felt this throughout our experience.

The complimentary breakfast buffet is awesome and extensive in its offerings, as well as being very closely monitored by the staff for cleanliness and personal table needs.

The same area that offers the breakfast becomes an extremely inviting lounge in the evening, complete with fireplace, couches and overstuffed chairs. The drinks, food and attention to service detail again beyond the norm.

Now on to fine dining at the Mark restaurant. We often eat lounge food at hotels such as the Marcus Whitman, and are satisfied to do so. However, we decided to give their fine dining a try. We could not have been more pleased with the experience. Again, attention to detail is far beyond any expectations. Upon mentioning to our primary server, Marc, that even the Caesar salad croutons were delicately crisp, he explained how much pride their pastry chef, Lauren?? takes in creating all bread offerings, even down to the salad croutons. To close out the extremely well prepared steak dinners, I asked Mark if the coffee was as well prepared and presented as the rest of the meal, as I normally do not drink coffee after noontime, and furthermore did not want to top off such a memorable dining experience with a cup of percolated stale coffee. Of course, he explained that the coffee was prepared via French press. It was exactly the taste that I wanted to take with me from the restaurant.

Overall, our stay was outstanding, and we would recommend this hotel, as well as the town to anyone looking for this type of experience.

My husband and I came to Walla Walla for a weekend get away and some wine tasting (our first time here). We got into town a little late and the restaurant was getting ready to close, so we decided to eat in the lounge. Our food was wonderful, but the service was above and beyond. (we actually were staying at a different hotel so didn't get to experience that aspect, but the lobby and lounge are beautiful). Our waiter was Matt Sample and he was so helpful not only with the food but where we should wine taste the next day, He gave us a couple of maps and recommended some places. We really appreciated the help since this was new to us. Thank you

It is with honor that we send this review for the "Walla Walla, WA Marcus Whitman." Our wedding celebration was perfect due to the fine culinary skills of the Marcus chef, excellent PR skills from their event coordinator, but more so, the superb service throughout the Marcus staff! To top off our experience, the hotel staff sent our honeymoon luggage up to the bridal suite leaving it on the trolley with this handwritten note, "Dear Dr. & Mrs. T.. we know you are catching a very early flight in the morning so we left your luggage on the trolley... Have a great night! Sincerely, Samantha." Oh...and did we mention that the hotel manager Jonathan also left us a personal hand written note with an invitation to their fabulous breakfast buffet upon our return from the honeymoon. We can't even imagine why any engaged couple would look any further than the "Marcus!" Dr. & Mrs. T.

Room Tip: Quaint, vintage style located in the heart of fabulous Walla Walla.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Whitman. Ask for the getaway package, which includes a voucher for the Marc. Our king deluxe room in the west wing was nice and comfortable, although the walls could have been a little thicker. We enjoyed an exceptional meal at the Marc, and the complementary breakfast exceeded expectations. The historic lobby is a great spot to lounge, and there is a really intriguing, but gruesome, set of oil paintings on the second floor that describe the Whitman legacy. Overall an excellent experience.
