We had a delightful stay at this grand old hotel. Our room (7002) was spacious and comfortable but we felt it was a bit over-priced @ over $300 a night. The public rooms downstairs are very beautiful, giving one the feeling of stepping back in time. The hotel is centrally located, walking distance to the charming center of town. Parking was free. The staff could not have been more helpful, solicitous and accommodating.
The restaurant was quite good. We particularly liked our server, Crystal, who was very pleasant and knowledgeable, willing to give us excellent recommendations and discuss how each dish was prepared. She recommended the tortellini and the buffalo steak and we pass these on to the reader as exceptional meals.

Room Tip: From reading Nana's review it sounds like 7006 is the best room. Our friends who stayed at the hotel prior to our visit also raved about their room which I believe was on the 7th floor. Our room (7002) was also on the 7th floor. It was fine but we did find it exceptional.

Stayed at the Marcus Whitman hotel with my wife for two nights while visiting the wine regions of eastern Washington. I booked the room by calling the hotel directly and obtained a better rate than what was available online. The Whitman's location is ideal for walking to wine tasting rooms, restaurants, and pubs in town.

We stayed in the west wing, which lacks the history and more elaborate decor of the main building, but was sufficient for our needs. We had issues with our room and ended up moving to a different room the second night. The first room was very close to the elevator, which was quite audible from the room. Beware of this for west wing rooms whose numbers end in 13. Those ending in 11 are directly adjacent to the elevator and therefore probably worse. Another thing we did not like about the x13 room was the layout, with the bathroom door right next to the bed. I believe it was designed this way because the elevator takes up the space near the room entrance where the bathroom would normally be. The room was wider than normal to make up for this lost space.

We enjoyed our second room much better, since it was away from the elevator and had a more traditional layout with the bathroom door near the room entrance. This room also had more bathroom counter space, which was limited in the x13 room. One other issue we had with both rooms is that the window shade didn't completely block out the light at the bottom of the window. Otherwise the rooms were fine, with better-than-normal hotel in-room coffee, flat-screen TV, comfortable bed, and wifi included in the rate.

Breakfast was included in the rate and was excellent. We also had dinner in the hotel's restaurant, Marc. Service at dinner was slow but friendly, and the food was pretty good.

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, especially with accommodating our request to change rooms.

Room Tip: Avoid west wing rooms with numbers ending in 11 and 13.

Not often in this neck of the woods, but the Marcus Whitman is a very old established hotel, which has a great lobby. Rooms are large with good furnishings. Flat screen TVs, if you're into watching a bit at night. WIFI in the rooms, which is a must. Great breakfast is part of the deal. Biggest issue is no amenities, like room service, bell boy, nothing like that at all. Very sparse (nada) in those amenities, to say the least. However, in saying all this, the front desk manager (Jonathan) helped us with our bags, like a trooper, and a great chap he was for that. But then with no amenities, what does one expect when in the wilderness of eastern Oregon/Washington. Still, I recommend it whenever in Walla Walla, Washington.

Room Tip: Rooms on the northwest side up on the 6th floor, a suite, which is a large and quiet room.

We booked a room through Expedia and ended up in the annex. The annex room was quite ordinary. Our neighbor had the TV on loud through the night and wouldn't answer the phone or door. They moved us to a suite (1:15AM) in the tower where we spent both nights. The room was spacious and quiet. The breakfast buffet which is included in the room was wonderful. The service at the hotel is fabulous. Just make sure not to stay in the annex.

The Marcus Whitman is a Historic Hotel. I has been nicely remodeled. We stayed in a suite on the 5th floor over the intersection of 2nd and Rose. Lots of truck noise starting early, a 5AM unsolicited wake up call.

Otherwise the room was nice, WiFi worked well.

The included Breakfast Buffet was good and the service pleasant and helpful.

We only stayed 2 nights so we looked at the exercise area but did not use it. Small with limited equipment.

There is a new section sheilded from street noise and I would hope more reasonably priced considering what you get.

We stayed here for a class reunion, if we were traveling on our own we would not not choose this facility again.

Room Tip: Avoid 2nd Street and Rose Street especially the intersection. The truck noise starts around 4:30 to 5:00 AM.
