This is a pretty area to visit but do not make a special trip to see this place. It is nothing more than a lake with recreational activities. It is close to Redding but hard to actually find and not marked well on the roads from Redding. Unless you plan to do things on the lake, an hour or so will give you enough time to wander the roads around the lake and take some pictures.

A friend and I spent a long weekend at the tent camping area. It was crowded but the spaces are far enough apart to make it not seem like it. Tons to do and see, we had kayaks which was rough becasue our space was up on the hill, we lugged kayaks all weekend, not fun. If you can get a spot on the water it would be perfect. I understand those spots are reserved many months in advance however. Feels like your in the wilderness yet Starbucks is only a 10 minute drive, very handy in the morning! We did the free moonlight kayak tour and it was amazing! The guide was funny and informative and you can't beat free! We could have stayed a week and not done all we wanted to. Highly recommend.

A beautiful area. Unfortunately when we were there, several wildfires had broken out near the park and it made things a little less desirable. That said, it is a lovely area with abundant areas for hiking, walking, boating and swimming.

We were there during the week and it was calm.peaceful and very relaxing. I am told that the weekends, when the weather is nice, are a much different story. Very busy and very crowded.

We enjoyed our visit.

The area looks pristine, but the bacteria count around Black Bottom is something of a concern. The camping areas are also cramped and noisy. More of a younger generations hangout.
