The Lower Mississippi River Museum, just a couple of blocks away, is very impressive, but this museum is really nothing special at all, and the admission fee that is charged for visitors is definitely not worth it.

This is another very nice Museum. Great place to start the battlefield tour. See the movie. It explains everything very thoroughly.

We found it helpful to see the diorama before going to the battlefield, which is so large. It gave us the lay of the land and the chronology of the siege. The museum also has many railroad and ship models. The couple at the museum were very knowledgeable and friendly. The diorama traveled a lot before it found its way to this museum; we are fortunate that it survived all those moves. Visit and support this wonderful local institution.

The diorama of the Siege of Vicksburg alone is worth the price of admission. It helped me get a perspective on the locations I had just visited on the battlefield tour fit together.

I truly enjoyed the museum! The display which tells visitors about how the people of Vicksburg set up housekeeping in the caves is amazing! To think, the only people there in Vicksburg standing against Ulysses S. Grant were women, children, and slaves. Grant had to starve them out before they would fold to the Yankee General.
