Seriously, this place has relics for sale. They now have less, as I bought relics as my souvenirs. Forget imported Chinese junk, get great stuff here! Take all of the photos that you wish and browse as long as you want among old relics and keepsakes from the war era. They also have a room with old china and crystal. They have a research area. Great bargain at five dollars per person. (adult)

Lots of history and displays. Old courtroom is outstanding. Sits on a bluff above the Mississippi and looked down as the Union army sieged Vicksburg for days and days. Must visit!

What a famous old courthouse to have had such speakers here as Jefferson Davis, Ulysses S Grant & Teddy Roosevelt.
This Museum is crammed full of so many artifacts that for me it was too much to take in so i selected just a few sections to explore. Civil War area was of interest as was the Pioneer Ladies Costume Room & the Pre Columbian Implements area.
I was fascinated to see & read about how the Teddy bear came to be named & become so popular! An original Teddy Bear given by Teddy R to a local child is in the exhibit.
The Court Room is very grand & has an ornate cast iron judge's dais & railings.
It was from the Clock tower that Union troops raised the Stars & Stripes on 4th July 1863 signifying the end of the 47 day siege.
The grounds have some beautiful gardens & seating. Busts of Jefferson Davis & his wife with a plaque of where they were when he found out he'd been elected Confederate President are also in the grounds.

The museum was fascinating with 2 floors of historical artifacts from Vicksburg's rich history. Especially interested in civil war era information about Jefferson Davis, General Sherman's family connection to the Klein family (Cedar Grove Mansion), and the Teddy Roosevelt bear hunting episode.

As a history buff, the museum contains many local artifacts and much information of the area. Staff was very friendly and cost is minimal. Building still contains the original courtroom and artifacts located throughout the rest. Nice gift shop with both reproduction and original items.
