We visited the Old Courthouse on a rainy day in Vicksburg and it was a wonderful experience. We were greeted warmly by the gentleman at the door who explained the layout and invited us to take our time - and we did! There are Civil War displays but it is really more of a Vicksburg museum.

Arrived early afternoon and immediately knew we would not have enough time to see everything at this converted courthouse. We will be back in the near future for a long weekend.

This place has several rooms full of antiques from the Civil War era. Downstairs rooms with all things from Civil War. Upstairs has more including an old courtroom. I am sure you will get your money’s worth at this place. They also have small gift shop there. Please don’t leave without using both sinks in the men’s restroom.

We were very glad we toured this museum prior to going on the self guided walking tours as we knew some history behind many of the buildings we saw. Although the museum has very interesting displays of life in Vicksburg as well as items from the Civil War, many of the descriptions were difficult to read because the print was too small and light colored for the low lighting in the building. The trial chambers were interesting to wander through.

This is a very good place to get a good feel of what happened in history in Vicksburg during the Civil War and there in information on other historical things that happened here. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

The Old Courthouse is the most prominent building in Vicksburg, located on a hill in the center of town since before the Civil War.

It is now a museum that is nominally about the history of Vicksburg, but is mostly just a giant collection of stuff: Civil War stuff, Jefferson Davis stuff, old dresses, toys and dolls, and period bedrooms. You could probably spend hours here if you wanted to examine each item.

This is not a good museum for the easily triggered. The Civil War is referred to as the War Between the States. The Union is the Yankees. There are exhibits about how even the slaves were often loyal to the South and fought beside their masters. Jefferson Davis - a Vicksburg-area native - is treated as a saint/martyr, a noble, selfless man punished unjustly by the Yankees after the War. As long as you don't take it too seriously, you can just enjoy what is here for its historical value and not get too worked up about the biased viewpoint.

So much History. Loved the clothes and gun displays. The courthouse room was of interest and the many personal displays by local people. Two floors of history with emphasis on civil war role Vicksburg played. The trees surrounding the courthouse provide a lovely setting. We toured most of Vicksburg and this was our last visit. It provided a good summary after the battlefield tours.

We went to the Old Court House Museum in Vicksburg and it was Awesome ! The Old Courthouse in Warren County, also known as Warren County Courthouse, stands prominently on a hill in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and was a symbol of Confederate resistance during the Siege of Vicksburg. The Old Courthouse Museum is packed full of civil war era artifacts and it tells you a great story about the Confederacy. This is definitely a must see in Vicksburg !
