The Old Court House Museum (1008 Cherry Street) is Vicksburg's most important cultural site. Inside you'll find several battle flags used in the Civil War; displays of civil war weapons, cannon balls, etc; Native American crafts - including an awesome pipe effigy; Beautiful antique furnishings; a room all about CSA President Jefferson Davis; and much more. The building itself is terrific; It was built by slave labor in 1858. Admission is very reasonable at only $5.00 per person. There is no audio guide, but all displays are very well marked. Visitors should note that there is a lot more at this museum than there is on display at the National Park Military Park.

“Not bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2011

This lovely old courthouse hosts a museum full of memorabilia, mostly from the Civil War. Lots of old bullets and shells from the siege of Vicksburg, as you might expect. A nifty old courtroom. A few real curiosities, like Ulysses S. Grant's chair and Jefferson Davis's tie. Too bad you can't go up to the tower and get a view of Vicksburg from up there, because I bet the view would be spectacular. Oh, and I heard (not from the museum folks) that the museum is haunted by the ghost of its first curator.

“Great museum and historical building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2011

This is a great museum with alot of artifacts from the civil war and Vicksburg history. We happened to be there when a school group was on a field trip but it stil was a good experience. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We had a personal question to ask the curator about a civil war relic that we had. He was very helpful and interested in our relic and also gave us some printed material that he had concerning our relic. If you visit Vicksburg do not miss this museum.

“Good place for history buffs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2010

The Old Courthouse is a really interesing place to visit, especially if you are keen on history. The building itself is worth seeing. And the museum is filled with artifacts covering the city's history from bayonets and rifles used during the Civil War to beautiful pieces of antique furniture and even a teddy bear given to a local child by Teddy Roosevelt himself. But my favorite exhibit is the clothing, there are some very nice women's dresses on display as well as baby clothes and shoes. I find it fascinating to look at how the styles have changed over the ages.

The Old Courthouse is definitely worth a visit. I live near Vicksburg and often take visitors over there. Both the building and what's inside are worth a look.
