The Econo Lodge in Vicksburg, Mississippi is a good value for your dollar. The rooms are clean, there are a zillion channels on the TV, and the breakfast is outstanding. The motel is located near to the entrance to the National Battlefield Park and to shopping and restaurants and is easily accessed off the Interstate. There are scores of motels in Vicksburg; this is worth a stop.

I just stayed at this hotel with my 2 yr old and 8 yr old. What a great hotel for the price of $40. The room was extremely clean, everything worked, even had a flat screen tv and beds were comfortable. There was a nice little pool that looked very clean. They had a decent free breakfast and was in a great location with restaurants around. Hotel parking lot is very well lit up at night which I like. The service was very good and helpful even offered to help unload my things and get kids into room. For an econolodge it was way more then I expected.

We arrived at the Vicksburg visitors center around closing time, quickly checked out the coupon brochures and decided to try the Econo Lodge. We visited some 14 hotels and motels during our 16 day road trip through the South. This was the best price-quality motel by far! Fast and pleasant check in (this guy is good!). Nice clean room, comfortable beds, good shower and decent breakfast. That is all we want and this Econo Lodge delivered (at an excellent rate!). Yes, free wifi and good location…

Let me start with the few positives. This unit is located off Exit 5B on I-20 in Vicksburg, which means its really close to the battlefield, the towns main attraction. It is easy off/on the Interstate, and close to Cracker Barrel and a few other restaurants. And the manager couldn't do enough to help us. He was a middle eastern gentleman who was very friendly, accomodating and just a personable guy with a real heart to serve. Unfortunately, he has inherited a horrible property. The room was $65 per night ($10 pet fee extra), which is cheap for a tourist area like this. However, as is almost always the case, you get what you pay for. Now the bad stuff.

The property is literally a giant concrete parking lot with a hotel on it, and the concrete is old and broken up, so the first impression shouts "not maintained". The main lobby is OK but communicates an average feel. The room is the average size & type economy, 2 star, chain motel unit. Car parked right on the sideway in front of the room, which wasn't a big deal, as this is a motel. I immediatley noticed the couch was dirty and stained. There was all sort of debris along the baseboards. There was a large bleach stain on the bed spread. Furniture was old and tired. The room did have a refigerator/freezer but it the doors were crocked and the freezer hadn't been defrosted in some time. The carpet was OK but gave the room a old, tired look. It didn't seem like it had been clean is quite some time. The bathroom was generally acceptable, and the shower curtain was clean enough. But the tired condition of the molded tub and dark grout between the tiles didn't help with the sense that it wasn't as clean as it should be. The digital, flat screent TV was horrible, with terrible resolution and major pixelization. And the free WiFi didn't seem to be working. The sheet and pillows did seem clean enough but the bedspread gave me the creeps. I am 5'7" and noted the bed seemed shorter than normal. My wife and I slept OK, and the bed was resonably comfortable. I skipped some of the other units in the immediate area to save a $20. I survived but didn't like it. If you just want a bed to crash on overnight, then this might be OK because the location is good. Otherwise, I would skip this place altogether. Finally, the breakfast was the average fair, althought they did have a waffle maker and nice little breakfast area with the usual juices, cereal, instant oatmeal, etc. I won't be back. Try one of the other units in the immediate area.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms.

Check in-check out fast. Comfortable and clean rooms! Pool was nice break after driving. Hotel manager was a very pleasant guy. We had no complaints. Wished it was cheaper, but I look for sales at a Dollar Store! Would stay again, if in the area.

Room Tip: take a 2nd floor....no dealing with pacing people with insomnia!
