“iconic and special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

Tommy, daughter Mallory, and a helpful, hard-working crew have turned a roadside produce shack into a dining destination. You cannot go wrong with avocado BLT, salmon salad or poboy, or tomato pie. All fresh veggies are excellent and all sandwiches are served on homemade breads of multiple varieties. Smoothies, freshly squeezed lemonade, and perfectly brewed iced tea. Sit inside or outside under the shed; music is usually Putamayo, everything from New Orleans jazz to Mississippi blues to Parisian cafe. Take home some fresh tomatoes or fruit and/or good selection of fresh frozen peas and beans. Do not go expecting A/C or fast food (depending on size of crowd, can actually be pretty slow) or pinot grigio; do go expecting good freshly prepared, often imaginative, food in a unique roadside setting along historic Highway 61.

“Fantastic Food Great Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2012

Walking into The Tomato Place is like walking into a Caribbean/Southern surreal place.. Small and quaint, Didn't know what to expect.. but it was adorable. The place is painted bright carib colors, and loaded with handmade jams, jellies and sauces.
We decided to have lunch and ordered the Salmon Poboy, fried Okra, and fried green tomatoes.. Haven't ever had fried okra.. it was yummy.. actually everything was yummy!
The Salmon Poboy had some sort of sauce on it that was amazing.. When asked we were told that the Dad/Owner makes his own "Mississippi Fever" Sauce. Of course we had to buy a couple of bottles to take with us.
The lemonade was great too, freshly made right in front of you from fresh lemons.
We left stuffed and happy.

“Quaint and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2012

Friendly and great atmosphere. A little deli off the side of the road that also serves as a fruit stand. Lots of cute gifts and goodies and a fun place to take a quick picture. My children and I ordered the BLT, chili and cheese dog, and frito pie. We all loved our food. Fun chatting with other tourist while there.

Worth the stop on our way from Florida to Oklahoma, hubby said best BLT ever! Fried green tomatoes and fresh lemonade and a sack of fresh pork rinds for the road! Great place!

“Over hyped fruit stand”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2012

We bought a couple of overpriced peaches and moved on down the road. If you are hungry eat the $9 fried chicken, 2 sides, and biscuits AND cornbread with iced tea lunch deal at Walnut Hills!
