“War boats on the river”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

Worth a visit, I never know about this kind of war on the Mississipi! But really worth a visit. The visitorcentre is good documented, and the vessel and the explanations are very good.

“ABSOLUTELY AMAZING”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

The remains of a Civil War Union ironclad that was under water for over 100 years. Nicely partially reconstructed so you can see the innards. Very good attached museum with exhibits and videos. Neither my wife nor I are normally museum people but this was amazing.

“Awesome glimpse of history”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

If you have any historical interests at all, this is a worthwhile stop. The Cairo itself is fascinating, as are the artifacts recovered and stored in the museum. And there's a great little gift shop, we scored a compass with sundial in a brass case, and a bosun's whistle in a wooden case. Good selection of books.

“An actual piece of history”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

This is an ironclad they brought up from the bottom of a river. Reconstructed so you can actually walk through it.

“Amazing”

Who ever knew the story of the Cairo? Now we do....great stop! History unfolded and restored with the recovery of this old gun boat. Reconstructed in part with a museum also.
