“For Civil War Buffs (and all Americans), a Must See”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

Amazing preservation of an actual war ship from the Civil War. The story of the ship's preservation is almost as compelling as the war stories the boat endured. Fantastically preserved artifacts that look as if they're brand new.

“A best-kept secret”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

My husband knows quite a bit about the civil war, but he had no idea an original iron clad still existed! He was thrilled - you actually get to walk onto the boat! Very informative - what a historic gem they have hidden in Vicksburg.

“Very Nice Exhibit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

This is an actual CW battleship, which was salvaged, in 1966, from the bottom of the Mississippi River, where she had been sunk by Union troops during the war, You can walk around her decks and read plaques that explalin the different areas of the ship. In the building next to her, displays tell you facts about her crew, her history, her specifications, daily life while on board, and her history. A gift shop is in the same building and all proceeds from there go to maintaining the exhibit and the surrounding military park. A very nice and educational exhibit. It is "living history".

Love seeing the items they salvaged off this old iron ship!! The ship is still intact and the museum is interesting.
