“Can't say enough about the food, but luke warm on my room”

We spent a night at Anchuca while making a short visit to Vicksburg. Overall, it was a nice experience. The grounds & the mansion itself are beautiful & charming. Everyone there was so friendly & helpful when it came to planning our day. And everything that they suggested was great. Also loved the 3 kitties that hung around outside in their fancy collars.

I really can't say enough about the food! The breakfast was delicious (we had quiche, cheese grits, bacon & fruit salad)! It kept us full through the afternoon & we went back for dinner (even tho we had already checked out). Dinner was amazing too. A bit of a splurge, but absolutely worth it. I definitely recommend eating at the Anchuca Cafe!

I wish I could be as enthusiastic about our room. We were in the coach house, which could be why. I think the rooms in the actual house would have been nicer. The shower curtain in our room needed to be replaced & I didn't particularly want to walk barefoot on the carpeting.

Can't wait to go back for great food and a comfortable bed in lovely surroundings. We stayed in the Carriage house in a room with a fireplace that was clean and well furnished. Our host was gracious and informative and the staff we interacted with were pleasant and helpful. The mansion is located away from the train tracks so noise is not a problem. We walked in the neighborhood and did not encounter any threats. Needed to walk after the full breakfast!

Stayed two nights at the Mansion. We stayed in one of the less expensive rooms in the Carriage House. The room was beautifully decorated. Bathroom set up with sink in a separate area from toilet and bath tub. Breakfast was excellent. Served with their specialty, cheese grits, that were very tasty (very surprised).

Very friendly owners. One of the owners, Tom Pharr, has written up a suggested one day tour of Vicksburg. Fit our needs wonderfully. His restaurant recommendations were also excellent. Walnut Hills, Ameristar casino buffet (dancing on the lower level after 8 PM), and a nearby luncheon only (sorry that I forgot the name). We ate at all 3 and found the meals to be very tasty and a good value.

We did drive by the other B&Bs that are frequently mentioned for Vicksburg. Most are within a block of each other. Very close to the train tracks--although we could hear the train some from Anchuca. I am sure it was quite loud down there. However, it did look like a better maintained area though.

Only negative was that staying out in the carriage house we did not feel that we were welcome to use the common areas in the mansion. May have been wrong as we did not ask to use it.

Make sure to take the self-guided house tour.

Home did have lovely pool area. I am sure it would be great during those hot/humid summer days in Vicksburg!

  • Liked — Great breakfast, friendliness of owners
  • Disliked — Limited lighting in room--hard to read in bed

The name of this beautifully restored and appointed Mansion in the heart of Vicksburg is Anchuca, Choctaw for Happy Home. It could also mean Home with big Hearts. The hosts Tom and Chris completely renewed me after what had been a very difficult week. Tom's knowledge of all things Vicksburg and his genuine concern that everyone feel relaxed and spoiled and sitting down to a gorgeous meal prepared by Chris (and he comes to everyone's table to ensure their contentment) completely renewed my soul and body. I can't wait to go back in the Spring for another dose of heart and soul and truly excellent grub.

Being from California I thought all Vicksburg had to offer was the military park. Was I ever wrong! Anchuca is a fantastic Antebellum home right in the heart of everything. The house itself is beautifully restored and appointed, and the location is so convenient. Chris' marvelous cooking kept us coming in to the restaurant and Tom was a font of knowledge on all there is to see and do. I would enthusiastically recommend Anchuca and will definately plan to stay longer on my next visit to Vicksburg!

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this wonderful B&B , and we could not have improved a thing . Not only is the mansion a glorious oasis but the two guys running it are also gems . Tom is a gracious welcoming host and a repository of local hisitoric knowledge ; Chris will supply you with an outstanding "plantation " breakfast that will last you well into the latter part of the day . We found the getaway package to be an excelent value and are looking forward to returning soon .

Anchuca is one of the few antebellum homes still remaining in the area. It is away from the train noises that other b&b's in the area are close too. Our room was in the dependency attached to the house on the second floor. Our host carried our bags up the stairs. The dependency actually consisted of a sitting room with a twin bed, kitchenette, bath, and master bedroom. The area was quiet and safe. Rooms and area was very clean. There is a pool/cabanna area along with the gardens. Tom and Chris were great hosts who were eager to help with recommendations for sites and restaurants. Chris' s breakfasts were fantastic!!! He served creative egg dishes that were yummy along with grits, fruit, bacon, pound cakes that melted in your mouth, and biscuits with home made jams. Whether it's for an overnight or a week-end stay, I highly recommend this b&b.
