Allow plenty of time to completely enjoy this excellent Civil War Battlefield. Upon arriving, go to the Visitor's Center and watch the short film, very well done. The Park Rangers were so helpful in planning the rest of my visit. The tour drive is beautiful and well marked. Lots of monuments to acknowledge the service of both Union and Confederate troops. Take a picnic lunch to enjoy at designated areas.

The siege of Vicksburg and its bearing on the Civil War is an amazing piece of history. This Park gives the visitor as much of an in depth experience of what it was like to be a part of both sides as I've ever experienced. No matter where you are from you need to stop at Vicksburg along I-20 to see this. Plan for some time to see it all including the Cairo Museum. $4 fee

We went on mother's day, and it was *extremely* crowded, but still worth it. First stop was the visitor's center where we watched a film and read about the history of the civil war and the park itself. I absolutely had a wonderful day in the park. It was very beautiful. My favorite stops were the house, canons, and the USS Cairo. There are plenty of spots and tables for a picnic.
