“Average Dinner ; Didn't Honor Gift Certificate”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

Was disappointed in our totally average yet slightly pricy meal here. We went for an early dinner; my mother had a gift certificate that was about to expire while she would be away for the winter. She called before she left for the winter and asked if they would extend it until she got back, and a woman told her yes. My mom had written her name down as well as the date of the call. However, when she went to use this certificate, the current waitress said absolutely not as they woman who told her that had been since fired for stealing. I think it was pretty unprofessional on their part; they could have offered my mother something on the $50 certificate that they would have honored during the winter. The food was average, nothing spectacular. We will not return there again.

“Good little country restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

We go to the beach lake Inn quite often. Food is generally good but inconsistent. Pricing is OK for the area. Good hot wings good steak and burgers and great salads. We were very surprised with some veal we had the other night. They were quite busy and we had to wait over an hour just for our order to be taken which was fine with us. Our appetizers were good but when we got our entrée, my wife and I looked at each other after just one bite. The veal we both ordered was inedible. Tough and chewy with very little flavor. It seemed to me that they must have microwaved the veal because they were busy. There is no other explanation I can think of as you couldn’t get veal to be this tough if you tried. We both left our entire dinner on the plate which should have given the waitress a clue that something was up when she gave us our check. We didn’t complain (the town is too small) and we paid our bill. We took both dinners home for our dog and made a hamburger when we got home. (Didn’t give the veal to the dog yet, I hope she eats it.)

“Good stop with good music”

Like location off the beaten path. The restaurant is in an old well restored home. The bar is beautiful.

Inconsistent so the food can be great or just so-so but great atmosphere.

“Good Food; Interesting Ambience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2011

Just went back to Beach Lake Inn ... after several years. Used to be one of our "regulars" until it closed. Not sure when it reopened, but it will probably be back on our favorites list. The ambience is as interesting as it always was ... a slightly shabby old inn located on a back road in the Poconos. Small dining rooms in typical country inn fashion and a glossier bar, that would be more fun for dinner if it had regular tables instead of high ones with stools. (Somehow eating dinner with my feet dangling mid-air, or wrapped around a stool, is not relaxing.)

Food is very good (not quite excellent) and a bit too eclectic. With entrees that range from chicken and ribs to their vision of bouillabaisse ("walk on the beach" -- way too "cute"), it's hard to pinpoint what they might be good at. Especially when the menu has a lot of casual food as well (burgers, sandwiches, wraps, etc.) Seafood was well prepared and beautifully seasoned. Meats done nicely. Fried calamari was excellent and had none of the "old oil" taste that seems to permeate this dish at a lot of places.

A few things that need attention: pasta (which is offered as a side dish) was overcooked and mushy; portions were too large, which may or may not be a flaw, I guess; some items reflected a bad understanding of the nature of the food. For example, a chicken shish-kabob had mushrooms that were so huge (and not parboiled or steamed) that they had dried out on the outside and were still raw in the middle; onion soup would have been excellent except that it was way too sweet. Plus, on the night we went, they were out of three entrees ... and three of what I would call menu mainstays. Not acceptable early on a Saturday night.

But, despite these items, Beach Lake is still one of the better offerings in the area and a nice excuse to take a drive when the weather is warmer. Staff is eager to please.
