“Diamond in the rough”
Reviewed June 5, 2014

This is a great place to stay. I'm pretty picky about cleanliness, and this place exceeded my expectations. The room was clean and large. The bathroom also was clean and large. I loved the lanai and the view of Diamond Head. I left the doors open all night and was awakened each morning (around 5:15) to the manu mele (birds song). It was lovely!

Just be aware of a few things that have been mentioned by many others ... there isn't a pool or a gym (but who really needs either of those things in Hawaii); the hotel is not right on the beach, but it's very, very close and has access (literally walk through the parking lot) to a great little, private beach that you share with the Outrigger Canoe Club and the Colony Surf Hotel. The hotel will give you beach chairs and towels to use too. I didn't use the free bikes because I didn't have time (was visiting for work), but I would have loved to use them. The location, for me, is perfect. It is close enough to Waikiki to walk there and do whatever you want to do, but it's also far enough away that you can avoid Waikiki. I love being down at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki, but just be aware that the walk along the beach through Kapiolani park to Waikiki is about 10 minutes.

Be aware (or check with the hotel) that the hotel restaurant is "closed for remodeling." That was kind of a bummer. They did serve a continental style breakfast, which met my needs, but I was hoping for the restaurant.

I would recommend Tiki's as a relatively inexpensive place to eat and/or have a drink. It's at the DH end of Waikiki so not a very long walk, and the food and live music are great. Excellent quality and locally sourced as much as possible.

Room Tip: It seems to me that all of the rooms would have a good view!

We arranged for VIP guest from China to stay at the Penthouse. The view of Diamond Head was outstanding. It was the most unique view of Waikki I had ever had. The hotel is located outside of Waikiki which adds to th beauty of this hotel. It is quiet and does not have the vehicle and foot traffic you need yo deal with in most hotels in Waikiki. The service is excellent and the GM a gem of a person. Although the restaurant wsa closed at the time of the stay, it is located next to two fine outstanding restaurants. The beach is within a short walking distance and beautiful Kapaiolani park is across the street. What more can you ask for.

Room Tip: The penthouse is excellent for a large family or couples traveling together. There is enough room a...

This was a good experience, the room was nice and we got a pretty good view of the Diamond Head. My favorite part was that the hotel offered bikes free of charge, which we used a couple of times. The only reason for 4 stars- the place lacked amenities- no gym, no pool, etc. and the location was a bit more remote than we expected for the price (wouldn't want to walk around there after sunset).. That said, the front desk people were very accommodating when we had an issue and offered a small discount.

Stayed here for 5 nights for my first ever visit to Waikiki.
- Room was spacious, modern and beautifully decorated. We had a view Diamond Head view, which still had a view of the ocean to one side.
- Front desk service at the hotel was fantastic. We arrived very early (7am) and they were able to check us in with no problems.
- Took advantage of the free wine and free yoga which were both great, and they also provided free bottled water which was really handy.
- Beach opposite the hotel is lovely (quieter than the main Waikiki Beach) and the hotel provided towels, chairs etc.
- Takes about 15 mins to walk to the main Waikiki strip.

- The only thing that stops me giving this hotel 5 stars is the breakfast. As the hotel is away from the main strip there are limited breakfast options close to the hotel (there is a hotel you can have an a la carte breakfast at and Barefoot Beach Cafe which c. a 10 minute walk away). The hotel offers a very, very basic breakfast service (cereal, croissant). As we got up early on a few days (Pearl Harbour visit, Diamond Head hike) we needed to have a quick breakfast and it was very average. If they get this sorted, then I would rate this hotel as excellent.

We had an excellent stay at the lotus garden hotel. Very helpful, friendly staff. Nice, spacious room. Very close to the beach, they provide beach chair and clean towels, set in beautiful surroundings away from the noise of Waikiki . Had a large park across the street, where we enjoyed walking in the early mornings. Hotel also had bicycles for use. Definitely would recommend it. Only down side -was no restaurant , though they did serve breakfast for a price and provided complementary wine late afternoon. Reasonable price for our room. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We asked for an ocean view, so we were up on the 11th floor great view of diamond head partial view...

The Lotus is a boutique hotel (app. 12 stories) away from the hustle bustle of Waikiki. Rooms are spacious and we were provided with beach towels and chairs (free) to visit the beach only 50 metres away. It's within easy walking distance of Waikiki. Free happy hour wine was a nice extra.

Room Tip: Go for a corner room on a higher level with both beach and Diamond Head views.

We recently had a week long stay at the Lotus and found it to suit our needs. It was very clean and spacious, and the service was very friendly. We availed ourselves of the free yoga and use of the bikes, and free coffee in the mornings. Reasonably and moderately priced room. Visitors should have cash ready at all times for tipping. The views from our hotel room were of the beach and Diamond Head, and we got really beautiful light in the room. Downsides: no restaurant in the hotel, No real food options within walking distance. We were advised to go next door for Japanese--and the meal was about 3x what we would have paid in Virginia for similar quality food. Beach access--we could not walk out of the property directly onto the beach without having to step over some uncomfortable rocks. There are few amenities (no fitness room or pool). However, I ran in Kapiolani Park and it was lovely. We stayed at this location because of the Hibiscus Half Marathon, which was just down the street. If we do the race again, we would possibly stay at this location again.
