This hotel is nicely located, has a family run feeling but amenities of a larger hotel. It does the Hilton brand proud with pleasant east-west breakfast and a fun happy hour. Staff goes beyond tye call of duty.

Seriously, hotels have gone too far...way too far! The definition of resort: “a place designed to provide recreation, entertainment, and accommodation especially to vacationers.” The Doubletree is a hotel, not a resort since they don’t offer recreation, entertainment and only accommodation! This hotel barely offers a pool, has a workout space not any bigger than my room, one very casual/basic food space, and literally nothing else. Therefore, charging a “resort fee” is completely ludicrous and nothing short of screwing over their guests for an extra buck...well, $21 to be exact. There is NOTHING that I get from the resort fee that I don’t get by being a very loyal Hilton guest. There was a time I liked this hotel and have stayed here numerous times, but have no intention of ever returning while they are charging this fee. I’ve been a Diamond member for 15+ years and this just annoys me completely.

Room tip: There are tall buildings that block most views of the ocean and the city/mountain so don’t come here for a view!

Aloha DrTraveler,

Thank you for staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Alana Waikiki Beach and being a loyal Diamond Member.

I am sorry to hear that you were not able to take advantage of the many amenities we offer in our resort fee. Our resort fee is at a comparable price and lower than many other properties in Waikiki.

I hope you can reconsider and stay with us again. I would be happy to help you with your accommodations and appreciate you being a returning guest.

This wasn't a bad place to stay. It's an enjoyable short walk to the beach. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. The room was ok for the price point. We had a partial ocean view. I would stay there again.

Room tip: Upgrade to an ocean or partial ocean view if that's important to you.

We did a single night here as we were transiting home from the Big Island.

So to be clear- I'm not the greatest of fans of Waikiki. It's Commercial and loud.

Double Tree is walking distance from all the excitement though, without being so close that you have to deal with all the noise. The beds were comfortable enough and we were given a freshly baked cookie on arrival (nice touch).

Lots of people on a budget stay here, so be prepared to hear older people arguing with the staff about pricing, their room in relation to their friends and general service.

The rooms are very aged. I'm talking Popcorn ceiling aged. Our room had heaps of mould on the ceiling and it smelt musty. Had I have been there longer, I'd have bothered to complain.

Our King sized room wasn't ready, so we were "upgraded" to a twin Queen room with Partial Ocean Views. Don't fall for the Partial Ocean views. You're no where near the water and we actually had a view of the side of the building next to us and the car park across the road.

The place was awesome but it is not a resort. I have stay at resorts this is merely a regular hotel. I am not knocking their service as they are very accommodating it's just that there are all these extra fees for no reason
