Old dated & moldy rooms! Our clothes stink from the smell! Molded bathtus & since we booked through Expedia we couldn't even get Hilton points! Room was so bad we booked another room across the street at Hilon Hawaiian Village!

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel for a number of years now. The hotel is in a quieter area away from the noise of the Waikiki area but still within walking distance. Every year they seem to upgrade one area of the hotel. Last year it was the exercise room and pool area. This year the lower lobby is getting a face lift and I have been told that next year some of the rooms will start to be renovated. The rooms are not large but certainly adequate for the price paid if not a little tired looking.
I was more than a little put off with the amount of dogs (as in canines) staying at the hotel though. I like dogs as much as the next guy but I don't think a good hotel is the place for them. I am not talking little dogs either. Ones I did notice was a boxer and a 'not friendly' husky as well as a myriad of small dogs. We had at least 3 on our floor that I noticed and the husky (who was not on our floor) could be heard at night barking from the balcony.
Pet friendly hotels are okay but there should be a maximum number of animals at any one time or a maximum number of rooms that can be used for animals and when they are booked thats it. It makes me wonder what was living in our room before we got there.
I would probably recommend the hotel to a friend with the proviso of what to expect in the animal kingdom.

We stayed at this hotel because our timeshare was not available for the first three days, it was certainly cheap for that time of the year, but we should have known, you get what you pay for!
Besides President Obama being in town so the coast guard occupied the hotel and you waited 10 minutes for the elevator to reach your floor!
We were happy to move into the Hilton Hawaiian village after three days.

We stayed at the Doubletree for a holiday visit to Honolulu. The hotel is located in a convenient location and our room was wonderful. Breakfast is good but pricey unless it's included in your room rate.
The staff is great!
Be prepared for the valet parking fee, but that's common in the area.

Stayed here at the end of Christmas in 2007 after spending the first week at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. The Doubletree Alana's rate actually costs me more than what I paid at the Hyatt. That may have had an impact on my impression of the hotel. We arrived at the hotel early in the morning and stored our luggage as the room was not ready yet. We waited at the pool while waiting for the room. The place advertises a gym and we laughed out loud when we saw their exercise equipment. There were 2 pieces of equipment by the pool that were rusting away. We laughed more when we saw the showering area to rinse off before/after going in the pool. It was in the corner hidden by make-shift lattice barrier and anyone walking on the street by the hotel looking up can see you rinsing off. We were so disappointed that we were immediately started searching the internet to find another hotel in the area if we could get one at a decent rate knowing that we would loose the prepaid rate we paid at this hotel. But since it was peak holiday season we could not find anything and ended up staying here. We booked an ocean-view room, which again was laughable. You had to lean over the very small balcony very far and you could see a sliver of the ocean far off in the distance. The room itself was decent (standard Hilton room) and room service food was decent as well. We ate at the hotel restaurant and I was in the mood for edamame and ordered a meal on the menu that included edamame. I was surprised when it arrived and no edamame. I asked the waitress about it and she checked with the chef who explained that they were changing the menu. This should have been told to us beforehand, but I did not want to wait for them to cook something else. When we tried to use the television check out service it did not work and had to wait in line to check out. We were not expecting this and were nervous because we had a scheduled ride coming to pick us up to go back to the airport. Since we spent most of our time on excursions and not at the hotel the stay was not as miserable as we had thought it would be. However, we would not stay here again.

If you're looking for a warm "aloha" and a great walking location, check into the Doubletree Alana Hotel Waikiki. Directly across from an open park (great for walking, jogging or pets) the hotel is near Hilton's Hawaiian Village --- a multi-acre paradise of waterfalls, nightly torch-lighting ceremonies, great dining and upscale shopping. Also nearby are Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, IHOP and a host of local dining options. Anything you care to see or do is an easy stroll from your room here.

We spent five days and four nights here in January 2010 and discovered that the hotel has nearly completed a ground-up renovation. There's a heated pool on a view deck about three stories up; adjoining the pool is a first-class fitness center and workout room. Our continental breakfast featured fresh-squeezed juices, an array of fruits that tasted local and fresh, plus excellent Kona coffee. Every face in the Doubletree is friendly; every "aloha" comes with exceptional service and courtesy.

This was our second stay at this property: We returned on purpose because of the prime location and the amazing service. The hotel was everything we remembered and more: warm, friendly, walkable, refreshing.
