“Outstanding Budget Choice for Waikiki”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014

We stayed at the Waikiki Sand Vila for two nights in March, thanks to a tip from a friend. Our room was great - we got a free upgrade to an eighth-floor corner room with a nice little balcony. The view of the mountains was lovely, and we were far enough above Ala Wai Blvd. that traffic noise wasn't an issue.

We were within easy walking distance of the beach, restaurants, and anything else we wanted to do. I would happily stay here again.

With a student at University of Hawaii, we are always looking for affordable hotels in Honolulu. I think we've finally found it. Wood floors, a Japanese-style Toto toilet, refrigerator and comfortable beds. The hotel is in the process of updating the lobby and rooms. Our room was modern and clean. With a beautiful view of the Ala Wai and a partial view of the ocean, you can't beat the location. The pool and hot tub is nicely landscaped and very charming. It's a 2 block walk to the beach which passes right by the ABC store to get your morning coffee or your evening bottle of wine and snack. It's not fancy but it has all the elements for a comfortable and pleasing stay in Paradise.

Waikiki Sand Villa is really the perfect place to stay. Walking distance to the beach, great shops, great food. The valet parking is very convenient. It's very affordable compared to so many of the other choices there and it's not like we're there for the rooms anyway, right?? Very nice staff, helpful and friendly. We will be back!

Room Tip: Higher up is nice and quiet. We were on the 11th floor and right next to the elevator and it was per...

I stayed there for two nights in January on my way to another island and it was my fourth stay in this hotel. Location of Sand Villa is simply perfect; walking distance everywhere (the beach, trolleys/bus stops,. Front desk and maid service was very helpful. Rooms on higher floors are quieter. My room was facing (partially) canal (great for sunrise) and the ocean. In my opinion, for those who are on a budget it is a great hotel.
Book a room directly from their website for better price and free shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel and back on the day of your departure. While booking be detailed with what kind of room do you want (some rooms were recently renovated).
I will stay there again and highly recommend Waikiki Sand Villa Hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors 6+ are more quiet (cannot hear as much street noise). North East side rooms h...

We stayed at the Sand Villa in 2012 and enjoyed our stay, and received a 10% off coupon for our return visit. This time, instead of staying in the tower we chose to stay in the villa (with a kitchen). We were there for 9 nights - and for 10 days we felt like this really was our home. We have a 3 and 5 year old, and I'm 6 months pregnant, so we needed the space and the villa studio suites provided us with that along with the great poolside location (which we didn't seem to use at all when we stayed in the towers strangely enough!).

I'll try to keep things simple and tell you the good.

Pros:
- spacious room
- great friendly staff, especially front desk for being so accommodating with our stroller storage (no elevators in the villa with their 2/3 floor studios).
- relaxing pool and hot tub environment, with tables so you can dine outside with take out or your own cooked meal if you feel like having a night in
- very affordable compared to other hotels with the same features (kitchen)
- central location to all the shops and bus routes (Kuhio Ave), and only 3 blocks up from the beach.
- just a comfortable stay after long days out and in the sun (the couch was always nice to just sit on - speaking as a very pregnant lady)

The Cons (not that these are a huge deal, and certainly we would not make a huge stink over):
- being on the 2nd floor, the 3rd floor above us would wake up at 6am to what would seem like rearranging their furniture. We told the front desk that they could probably solve all the noise by putting padding on the table and chair legs so that could reduce any of the noise
- all the cutlery and kitchen basics were not consistent between rooms (i had a cutting board, 2 forks, 3 bowls... etc, while our friends had a spatula, no cutting board.) I'm sure if I told front desk about this they would resolve it, but because we had friends in another studio we would just borrow from each other for the meals we needed those items for.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay here, it's not a Hilton or Embassy Suite, but if you're a family on a budget and want something comfortable, I would highly recommend checking out a studio suite at the Waikiki Sand Villa. We do a lot of traveling as a family, and this was one of the few times that we were really sad to have to leave - and a lot of it had to do with the fact that the Villa felt like a home for us.

Room Tip: Studio Suites in the Villa a more spacious and have better light than the rooms in the tower. Great...

You can walk from here to Waikiki Beach and the International Market Place, very convenient, drive up to the hotel, hop out of the car, reception is right there, elevators just to the right up to the room! To the right of that (the lifts that is) is the Sand Villa bar and grill, great value food! Don't have to walk miles to reception or the room. Rooms are not flash, but clean. If you're on the upper levels, great views over the Ala Wai Canal. If you arrive early, they have a room you can freshen up in with showers. Or if you're leaving late, you can check out, leave your bags at reception, head out for that last minute walk along Waikiki, and when you get back you can use the same room to freshen up before heading to the airport. Can't go wrong! Loved it!

Room Tip: Stayed on the 12th floor, it was very nice and clean. Doesn't really matter which room you stay...

the staff was quite helpful in answering all my questions. Away from the main drag and 3 blocks from the beach. The Food Pantry is close by if you should need groceries. The rooms are clean and the maid service great. The hotel is eco-friendly with recycling bins and hand dispensers in the shower and over the wash basin . The pool is quite nice and relaxing with palm trees and a jacuzzi to rest your body from all the shopping . Nice view of the canal and the mountains . Would stay if I were to go back Next Year

Room Tip: all rooms are about the same but try to stay 6 and above so you get the view
