We read some negative comments about this Hotel but honestly, this is the perfect location near Waikiki Beach for the price. Since we did not spend much time in our Hotel, it didn't matter about the other minor stuff we encountered like slow drain in our tub - which was fixed when reported, the $3 fee for safe- which we didn't use, we had to pay $25 parking per day- same like in all the Hotels in the area. This is right in the strip of where the happening is in Waikiki. They said part beach view but I had the bad side view but again, didn't stay much in our room so view didn't matter. We travel a lot so we try to be economized with our $$$ but also of course comfort when we sleep which we had a comfortable bed. This is one of the oldest hotel which needs some upgrades but everything else worked out well.

Sated here for 11 nights. Fantastic location across road from beach and walking distance to everything. Rooms were big and clean and had balcony overlooking beach and diamond head. Service great. I couldn't fault the place and good value for money. I will return.

Room Tip: I was on 34th floor and had great views.

We researched our brains out for moderately priced beach-front hotels. Three choices emerged for under $200/night: the Pacific Beach, the Park Shore and Queen Kapiolaini. (Note: The Hawaii Prince is also in this range and is a much better facility in a beautiful setting but it is at the far west end of Waikiki on the marina - NOT on the beach.)

Of the three beach hotels Pacific Beach is spectacularly located a block and a half east of the International Market and right across from the shallow lagoon. The high tower offers vast uninstructed views of the ocean, the city and Diamond Head from the upper floors. (Don't settle for the lower Beach Tower unless you are full ocean front and 12 floors or higher as your view will be the roof-top parkades of other hotels).

Hotel amenities include a small pool on a barren concrete sun deck with water that was strangely way colder than it should have been given the all-day sun exposure. I was good for a quick plunge to cool off in the afternoons though. Two restaurants are on-site, one being the famous Oceanarium Buffet with the spectacular giant aquarium where scuba divers and mermaids cavort with the amazing fish. You'll likely want to go at least once but be warned; the dinner plates are $45/pp and the food is not good (beyond the unlimited crab legs; you could make those and a salad your meal and do fine). A street-side cafe serves breakfast (continental was included in our package) and a BBQ at night. There are also lots of small shops including the ubiquitous ABC Store and two different tour desks. The parking garage is a bit wonky (in a separate building next door) and expensive; $25/night for self or $35 for valet which is NOT a good value unless you will be coming and going several times. TV reception is perfect with basic cable and (expensive) pay-per-view; $14.95 each.

Service was adequate all around. We were very disappointed with our original room assignment and with the chech-in clerk that was not helpful. Once in the room a call to the manager had us on the 31st floor in the tower watching the sunset very promptly with excellent attention from the bell desk. TIP: Avoid the front desk; they were pleasant enough but never willing or able to help resolve issues. Save time and go straight to management (this may have been an "empowerment" problem). All the other staff we encountered were polite but not effusive which may be in keeping with the temperament of the cast numbers of Japanese guests.

The rooms were exactly like everybody else on here describes them; clean, functional and completely devoid of luxury. The beds arei old and very firm and the bedding is bizarre; one old blanket enclosed in two flat sheets. Pillows were comfy though. A/C unit was so old the knon was stuck on low; just barely adequate and wouldn't have been cool enough on the height of summer. Standard-type bath products and a hair dryer were present and the hit water is high temperature and very plentiful (harder to get cold water actually).

Overall, we were happy enough with our stay especially given that price had been such a big consideration. I could easily recommend Pacific Beach to anyone with a modest budget and reasonable expectations. (NOTE: We spent a fortune on activities on this trip as had been our plan, which is why we needed a cheaper hotel. If you plan to spend a lot of time on the property or at the beach get something a little nicer with more of a resort feel like Hilton Hawaiian Village, Royal Hawaiian or the Moana Surf Rider.)

Room Tip: Stayed right beside the elevator and heard absolutely NO noise. Very convenient after a long day. Th...

This moderately priced hotel was arranged by AAA Travel and suited us perfectly due to its location on Waikiki Beach. The breakfast buffet was excellent with fresh fruit, juices, crepes, made to order omelets, breakfast meats and favorite foods for Asian visitors, too. Great partial ocean view room gave us Diamond Head, the Pacific Ocean and the Honolulu Zoo.in Kapi'olani Park.

Housekeeping will not service your room unless you call and specifically request service. Please don't forget to tip the housekeeper. Hawaii is very expensive.

Room Tip: Consider tipping at check-in. We were given a room on the 37th floor with a dazzling view above the...

This hotel is in a great location right off Waikiki beach. We stayed in a partial ocean view room. The view was fantastic and def worth the extra. The downside is the the rooms are looking tired and a bit dated. Staff friendly but nobody went the extra mile. Would not stay here again as there are so many other hotels to choose from in the area which look more modern.

From the outside of the hotel you might get an impression of a 4 or 5 star hotel. Its impressive in size and has a good location right on the main road at Waikiki Beach. Once inside the massive aquarium is quite impressive, it even has a mermaid! Aside from that its pretty run of the mill hotel. It does feel a bit dated, I felt like I was back in the 80's at times with the color schemes and the layout. There is a restaurant and bar on site which seemed pretty decent. They have a few good travel agents as well. Its location to the beach and Waikiki in general is pretty good, even if Waikiki seems to be filled with homeless surfers and drunks who drink all day and sleep on the beach at night. Beds were average, bathroom small and unimpressive, and décor in the rooms a bit dated.

All in all for the price, I would stay here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice given an unlimited budget.

Room Tip: Pick something with an ocean view

I booked a last minute trip to Hawaii on Expedia. My room with a partial ocean view was on the 10th floor. The room was decorated in a minimalist manner. The room was clean but needed a coat of fresh paint. The bed was firm but comfy. Nice little balcony. I got a nice room at a great rate and I would certainly stay here again. Right on Waikiki Beach. Every member of staff was pleasant and helpful. In-hotel restaurants were over priced so plan on eating on the beach strip.
