“Nice Place”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Stayed 8 nights. Had a partial view. That was great cause we had a church beside us. We were on the 14th floor above the church roof.Sat out on the Balcony every morning for coffee The room, bathroom was a good size, renovated. TV was a good size. We loved the location and will stay here again.

Room Tip: The pool side get the late afternoon sun.

The overall condition of the hotel was not very good. As many other reviewers have highlighted, everything was very old and outdated compared to other hotels on the Waikiki strip. This is the older end of the area and a little sketchy at night. However, the service was very good. We encountered problems with the shower, the pipes, the air conditioning and internet on the day we checked in and the day after, but all the staff took care of this very promptly and courteously (from the Front desk staff to the repair crew). The good service does not extend to the chain stores on the first floor of the hotel, which are not really part of the hotel. We've had consistent terrible service from the people at the ABC store, who only cared about the Japanese tourist population and was just rude to everyone else (the staff only spoke Japanese, not much English). It got so bad that we decided to walk two blocks down to another ABC store for water and essentials every day.
The best thing about this hotel is their oceanfront rooms, which is what others recommended to us and we got an amazing view of Waikiki every morning. I would recommend this hotel to people only if you're getting the Oceanfront rooms. The view is truly amazing!

Room Tip: Oceanfront rooms on higher floors

Waikiki is expensive. You won't get a better location for the price. I used a 3rd party (why pay retail??) and got it for a huge discount. Parking is $25 a night and needs to be purchased at the desk or be charged $10 per hour. Glad I didn't stay here the whole trip, though not a horrible stepping off point.

The good: Location, housekeeping staff was excellent, view, AC was noisy but ice cold.
The bad: Tiny pool & hot tub, furniture is beaten up, decor is old, bedding is just sheets (ask for blankets). Desk doesn't answer telephone.
The ugly: Wireless Internet Access did not work at all. Had to use LAN. $20 daily 'amenity' fee for 2 bottles of water, wifi internet, in-room safe, tiny fridge, and a discount coupon for an onsite gym. I knew about this before bidding and have no problem with it HOWEVER let's be honest here, a mandatory resort or amenity fee is just a scam to make prices appear lower.

Room Tip: Don't pay retail!

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience at the Pacific Beach Hotel.
We strive to provide the best level of service and cleanliness possible. We realize that our hotel is older and we are in the planning stages of completely renovating the hotel within the rooms and the public areas including replacing all the beds.
We have also included the use of our tennis courts and golf driving cages with equipment included into the cost of our amenity fee to add value. We are the only hotel in Waikik to have onsite tennis courts and golf driving cages.

Once again your comments and feedback are appreciated. We look forward to taking care of you again on a return visit to Waikiki.

Bad feeling started with checkin-in in the old, noisy and dark lobby, it took more than 30'.

Room (high floor, partial ocean view) was very old and tired, same was the bathroom. A/c very noisy, but worst of all was the bed, with unconfortable old matress paired by dirty smudged sheets.

For 220$/night excluding breakfest it was by far the worst and the most expensive place we slept in Hawaii.

Avoid it

I booked through "Name your price" priceline.com and I definitely regret the no cancelation/change allowed.
Pros:
- Location(this is basically what's keeping this place from being priced a lot lower)
- Cheap
- Cleaning lady was nice

Cons:
- Might as well not have a phone in the room. (No one picks up)
- Bathroom is in bad condition: stains, small, no ventilation = musty smell
- fridge is small: fits a plate and a couple water bottles
- Elevators are slow: There are 3 or 4, but accesses every floor. Be prepared to wait
- Ice is on every other floor. Assuming it's on even # floors, my floor (5th) did not have one
First impression: The room looked motel decent. Had a patio area, view of the beach, view of the pool, nice size TV, and a small fridge.
However, my boyfriend discovered a little dead roach under a pillow. Then as we initially tried to set up our computer on the wi-fi, we realized it did not automatically popped up and we could not find instructions. So we called, and called, and called.....no one was picking up from the front desk and concierge. Another reviewer had mentioned, "goodluck on getting through on the phone!" I had to directly walk to the front desk to ask.

It was a good thing we were always out and about, but then we had to return to it.

I won't return unless they do a complete renovation.

Pros:
* Rooms were clean and spacious
* Housekeeping was great and always quickly responded to our requests for more towels
* Awesome location right across the street from the beach

Cons:
* Bar with karaoke Thurs-Sat til 11 pm which means LOUD music and noise until late in the evening. Even earplugs didn't help.
* VERY slow elevators with no way to take the stairs up (door is locked), but you can take them down from the rooms to the lobby
* 11 am checkout
* $20 resort fee per day, which doesn't include parking

If you get a good great, don't hesitate. Otherwise, you can find better choices for not too much more money.

Booked it thru booked.com. I got a great price. After seeing the hotel I’m glad it wasn’t more. It’s an old hotel that is run down and needs renovating. The beds are old, noisy, and uncomfortable. The location is great but the beach bums outside the hotel who beg for your change and ask to use your cell phone is never good. The way they advertise their amenities is misleading, the mention they have a pool and access to a gym. The pool is the smallest in the area measuring about 10foot by 20 foot. not big at all. and for the gym, 24 hr fitness occupies a space within the same building that offers no discount for hotel guests and they charge a whopping $25 for a day pass. If I were to visit the area again, I would most definitely choose another location.
