“Beautiful hotel, perfect location”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

This hotel exceeded my expectations. Check in was a pleasure with Pierre. After 22 hours of travel from NY, he was very pleasant and understanding and since our reservation was booked through a 3rd party, he said they did not pass on the information that we needed 2 double beds. After he searched for a partial ocean view room with 2 doubles, he was unsuccessful. He felt so bad, but he was able to upgrade me to an ocean view with 2 double beds!!! This view was amazing. Pierre was the nicest, most pleasant hotel clerk I have dealt with in years. What a great start to my hotel stay!

We stayed int he Tower section of the hotel, which is fairly new. It was beautiful. The hotel is extremely clean, spacious, the staff is all friendly, and it's in the perfect location. The outdoor bar has the best happy hour on Waikiki Beach and they are known for that. The drinks are spectacular and the bar staff is very friendly, attentive and fun. They have live music each day/night in the courtyard by the bar.

The gym is located near the Tower wing and it's beautiful. It's spacious and clean with a front row view to the main street, Kalakaua Avenue.

I didn't have a chance to go to the Spa, but I really wanted to. For $45 dollars, you can use the steam room, sauna and relax as often as you'd like throughout the day. They also have all of the usual spa services and amenities.

There is really no need to rent a car while staying on Waikiki Beach. The bus line is right in front of the hotel. We booked a tour to Pearl Harbor through Discover Hawaii Tours and they picked us up right out front at our scheduled tour time. We walked everywhere, to the shops (and the hotel is conveniently located to all of the high end, beautiful shops), the Honolulu Zoo, and along the beach to check out all of the other hotels on the strip. There is a giant Mall about 10 minutes by cab that was about $10 cab fair. We walked there, but took a cab back to the hotel. Apparently, this Mall is one of the largest in the country and yes, it has many nice, big name stores.

We did not eat at the hotel. There is a Honolulu Coffee Shop attached to the hotel, which was a dream. Every morning I woke up and went straight down there for my coffee and breakfast. They open at 6am every day and the staff is extremely friendly and the coffee is 100% Kona and delicious.

This is a phenomenal hotel. Very beautiful and accommodating and conveniently located. I highly recommend staying here while visiting Waikiki. This was the 1st Hotel on the Island, built in 1901, so there is a lot of rich history associated with this hotel. Absolute paradise and relaxation the moment you step inside.

This beachfront hotel is over 100 years old but has been nicely updated. We stayed in the older section which has 12 foot ceilings, great beach views but a bit small. I have to highly recommend Roxanne who works in the Tours & Activities section. She made our stay at the Moana so much better. Please see her if you stay at the Moana. She set up a Pearl Harbor tour, where to rent cars and what to view when traveling around the island. The hotel is great, but the only "miss" was the Banyon Court. An outdoor restaurant under an old banyon tree. We paid $12 for drinks and the drinks were awful -- no flavor and certainly not worth the price. Eat and drink elsewhere!

Room Tip: It is worth the extra money to get an ocean view room. The "mountain side" faces Kalakaua...

Aloha,
Thank you for sharing your comments with us and for being our guest. We are so glad you enjoyed your room in the historical Banyan Wing. Although intimately sized, these rooms are beautifully appointed and will give you the true essence of what guests experienced in the early 1900’s. We appreciate your kind compliments about Roxanne. She is indeed a star performer and we will ensure she is recognized for a job well done. We are disappointed to hear you did not enjoy the Banyan Courtyard as so many of guests do. Our bartenders are extremely talented and creative and we would love to be given another opportunity to share with you their talents. Mahalo and we hope you will return to “The First Lady of Waikiki.”

This lovely hotel is was out little oasis in the middle of busy Waikiki. Loved that we could walk everywhere. Pool is small and always busy, but just go right to the beach a few steps away! Great staff, always friendly and helpful. Room was tiny, but very well set up with everything you need and a great comfy bed. Lei'd on arrival was a nice touch. Great cocktails at the beach bar. Beautiful historic hotel, loved it and would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upgrade on check in - ocean view is divine.

Although our room was one of the older ones. It didnt matter. It was clean.
The pool is a little small and if you have little ones this is perfect. You have to go down early in the morning to get your chaise if you plan on laying out otherwise it's footsteps to the beach.
It was a crazy busy time of year end July. The staff handled it with grace and ease.
Loved the food and the service. The shops were great!

We were lucky to stay in the banyan wing which is the historical wing of the hotel. We got a balcony room over looking the water up on the fourth floor. The rooms were recently renovated and are much larger than their website shows. It is right in the heart of Waikiki and so worth it. The food is impeccable. But with being in the thick of Waikiki, there are many options if you want to explore. The staff are what you would except from the Westin...customer service is amazing and noting is too much. They're amazing. We spent 7 nights there for the last leg of our three week Hawaiian honeymoon and it was perfect. Also, a must is to eat at the Cheesecake Factory (2 min walk away) for both eat in and take away. Amazing.

This property is right in the heart of the action.
The premises are well maintained and staff very friendly and helpful.
Had a problem with the safe not working but other than that no complaints about the newly renovated room itself... nice view of Diamond head.
Found the housekeeping very "minimalist."
Yes the bed was made and towels changed but nothing else was moved... not like regular housekeeping at a Westin where shoes are lined up and bathroom sundries laid out on the bathroom counter.
The pool is tiny for the size of the property and bathers were almost lying on top of each other!
Great coffee shop at the front of the hotel!

Would I go back... maybe!

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room facing Diamond head!

The lobby and outdoor area alone are worth the trip. Rooms in the old part of the hotel are not huge, but are well appointed, get a room looking over the courtyard its less noisy then the street view. Breakfast is good and food overall is good.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the courtyard.

Aloha,
Thank you for sharing with us. “The First Lady of Waikiki” was the first hotel built in Waikiki and steeped in charm and elegance. Many of our guests find our open air lobby, furnished with couches and rocking chairs, more reminiscent of a cozy living room than a 700 plus room hotel. Beyond the lobby is our beachfront Banyan Courtyard where guests and locals love to enjoy cocktails and watch the sunset over the blue waters of Waikiki. For over a hundred years, the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa has stolen the hearts of visitors from all over the world. Mahalo and we look forward to your return.
