“Best location on the island”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Great large hotel with a small charming feel, very clean and friendly. We stayed in the 100 year old section of the hotel and it was great. Dinner by the beach was perfect. The best location to walk to the marketplace and dukes, we also walked to the zoo. It seems like a Movie set, at the front door is the busiest street and 100yrds away through the back door is the best beach ever.

Room Tip: I don't think there would be a bad room. The rooms that face the mountains see all the rainbows...

Aloha,
We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay with us! The Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa was the first hotel built in Waikiki, over 112 years ago, and Waikiki developed over the years with the Moana Surfirder in the center. Our beachfront location truly is second to none! Despite numerous renovations, “The First Lady of Waikiki” still conveys a romantic charm reminiscent of yesteryear. We offer a few different historical activities, such as Afternoon Tea at the Veranda and a historical tour every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11:00am. Mahalo and please consider staying with us again on your next trip to Hawai’i.

We stayed at the Moana this past February. Our room was an ocean view room in the Banyan wing. I love older well kept hotels, I loved our room and the overall charm of the Banyan wing. That said, for some the room would be too small and old feeling. If you like a newer feel, choose a room in the tower. The staff is incredible and always smiling. The beach bar is a great place for a drink, relax under the banyan tree or enjoy the beach. We will definitely stay here again!

Aloha,
Thank you so much for sharing with us! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay here at “The First Lady of Waikiki.” Like you said, many of our guests find our Banyan Wing guest rooms charming and representative of “old Hawai’i,” however some of our guests prefer our modernized Tower Wing guest rooms. It is so great to hear you enjoyed relaxing at our Beach Bar underneath our iconic banyan tree. Next time you stay with us, please join us for Afternoon Tea at the Veranda. It’s like stepping back in time! Mahalo and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa.

Stayed here for several nights this past week. I was pleasantly surprised how wonderful this hotel is. Great location, close to many attractions, shopping and great restaurants all within walking distance. The beach is located right behind this magnificent hotel. Moana Surfrider hotel takes you back in time. The staff was wonderful, as were the rooms which were spacious and very clean. We also dined at the Veranda restaurant, service was a tad slow which was understandable as it was peak dinner time. Our waiter was very courteous, accommodating and when he saw that our meal wasn't to our liking, he quickly resolved it for us. We didn't complain, and to our surprise the manager on duty came over to our table and said our dinner was on the house! That's what I call customer service. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name. I just want management to know how much I appreciate his efforts.
After reading some of the reviews I must admit I was a little hesitant to stay here, but at the end of the day we are so happy we did. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel. One thing for sure if I ever get back to Honolulu, I know where I will stay, the Beautiful Moana Surfrider .

Stayed here for 3 nights, stayed in the main building, or room was small, the bathroom was small, but we did not spend any time in the room but to sleep and shower, for what we needed it was perfect. The location of the hotel is great, restaurants and shopping all around the hotel, for the price we paid to be right on the beach, we felt we could not be in a better location. Next time in Honolulu we would definately return!

Stayed here for a family Christmas holiday. It was a beautiful hotel with very clean and renovated rooms. The internet was a little slow but having a private beach was a bonus! Great food and great service. I would love to stay here again if the price was a little lower. I definitely recommend the Moana Surfrider if you are willing to splurge a bit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony...you won't regret it.

Unfortunately, we didn't stay at this lovely hotel, however, we went to dinner there, on the verandah , there was a small problem with my main meal, I don't want to complain about that, I really want to compliment our waitress & the manager , on the professional way , that they attended to the matter, I will write to their H/O & let them know.

Great location. Oldest hotel in Waikiki, but is well maintained. The Veranda Restaurant is great. You can sit outside on the veranda and enjoy the view. There is a nice porch on the front and the back of the hotel. Most of the staff are long-time employees. The front desk staff are very courteous and efficient. There is a nice ambiance throughout the hotel. There is a tour of the hotel that gives the history of the hotel and is a nice activity for a family to do. Couples from Japan stay at the hotel and have a Western marriage ceremony so expect to see 3 to 5 wedding dresses per day.

Room Tip: The front desk clerk can decide what room you will have. Be pleasant, smile and be positive. If yo...

Thank you for sharing with us. We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay here at “The First Lady of Waikiki” and more specifically the Veranda. Afternoon Tea at the Veranda is a memorable experience and almost like stepping back in time. We were the first hotel built in Waikiki and remain charming and reminiscent of “old Hawai’i.” Mahalo and we hope you return to the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa upon your next visit to Hawai’i.
